I keep seeing surprised posts "Huh, I went to [insert event, conference, club, on an airplane, the Sphere] and got COVID!" Meanwhile CNN is running headlines saying "COVID-19's Back." Friends, it never, ever went away and I'm still masking in indoor spaces for your protection as well as my own.

I don't know if it counts as optimism but I don't really think there's anything that Donald Trump could do or have happen to him that would make people who don't already like him want to vote for him. There is no more known quantity on earth, he can't change, and he is for sure not getting better.

I mean, I appreciate this and also PLEASE NO as the actual John Scalzi I am all too aware of my various failings. Please don't put me on a pedestal, I have terrible balance. Instead, ask yourself "what would the best version of me do right now?" and then aim for that. This is what I try to do.

My grandfather passed away many years ago, so I have decided to replace "What Would Papa Do?" in my internal moral compass with "What Would @scalzi.com Do?" (We all know Scalzi is human, but the image of him in my imagination is not. That image is pure and upstanding in all things.)
