For the second year I'm the face your submission confusion for GDC. So tell me... are you submitting a talk this year? (Don't ask me your faq, I'm just a faqsmodel.)

Started the day with a 20 min lap swim and I'd all but forgotten how completely high it makes me feel. Like, too satisfied with life to care about work, vibes. Who can deadline with all this capillary tingling going on?

Why is the expression “my dogs are barking” and not “my calves are mooing?”

Montreal's sponge parks, designed in a way to deviate as much rain water as possible away from the sewers, have saved a bunch of areas from flooding due to Beryl's rainfall. So you get really nice parks in a major city, with a bonus against flooding. They're making more of them now and I love it
Montreal sponge parks soak up the stormmontreal.ctvnews.ca After over 100 millimetres of rain pummelled Montreal Wednesday evening, some Montreal streets saw less flooding, and sponge parks played a big part in soaking up the precipitation.

We think Caves of Qud should be nominated for a Nebula too! Any SFWA members following us? 😅
It's awkward to point at ourselves and yell good things, but I do believe we made a novel, language-driven work of science fiction that is probably too niche to get noticed without banging a drum so 🥁🥁

I believe the children are the future.
My family is currently me, my partner, two cats, and at least 40 baby spiders that live in the bathroom and hide (somewhere???) in the daytime. “Where my baby spiders at!?” Rodrigue enthusiastically calls out as he goes for his morning shower, only to be answered with sad silence.

I’m relatively new to getting around by bike. So, I really appreciate this episode for giving me an understanding of (but definitely not an appreciation for) the history & theory that have shaped the attitudes of the vocal mansplainers in the local Facebook cycling discussion groups.
NEW EPISODE: "John Forester and Vehicular Cycling, Part 1." John Forester's influence shaped bicycle safety in the U.S. for decades. We take a deep dive into his 1976 book, Effective Cycling, and the idea that cyclists should "act like drivers of vehicles." thewaroncars.org/2024/07/09/1...

Some Canadian cities saw the *average* rent price increase by 20% this year. In one year. How does that happen? (Not sarcastic, actual question.) Not the biggest but not the tiniest cities. Like Quebec City.

I paid for coffee IRL and because the coffee shop used square or whatever, the act of paying automatically signed me up for the store's newsletter and now I must burn everything down, seriously what have we done, make it stop

Newsletter: Goldman Sachs has called BS on Generative AI, and I believe that it's time that everybody follows suit - generative AI is unreliable, unsustainable, requires an entire rebuild of America's power grid, and is most decidedly not the future. www.wheresyoured.at/pop-culture/
Pop Culturewww.wheresyoured.at A week and a half ago, Goldman Sachs put out a 31-page-report (titled "Gen AI: Too Much Spend, Too Little Benefit?”) that includes some of the most damning literature on generative AI I've ever seen. ...

No. We can all wear all the socks and all the pants now. All fashion has been liberated by the no more fucks fairy and Instagram ten years ago. Wear them all at the same time if you want to. Stretch a sock of your choice over the head of a prescriptivist if you want to.
ANKLE SOCKS ARE A MILLENNIAL THING????

I guess what people want is not the answer, but to sound right. At first I thought, “wouldn’t it be fastest to make something up yourself?” But not everyone can make up nonsense, format it, and dress it up with confidence. That’s how *I’m* faster than a computer. And my brother got math.
people using AI to get to an answer faster but it's frequently wrong reminds me of a guy who said he could type super fast but when he showed us he made an enormous number of typos, because if getting it wrong counts I can do that even faster

Let me bask in the light of my own experience. I have earned it. Now is the time.
I'm realizing it actually makes me furious to contemplate any more career changes. Career changes aren't all freedom and flowers. There's a personal and energy cost. There's a limit to how many times you can Crazy 8s your way through capitalism. One must be allowed to rest, and to coast, dammit.

NEW EPISODE: "Killed by a Traffic Engineer" In his new book, Wes Marshall argues that his fellow traffic engineers need to do some deep soul searching so that they no longer design a system that kills tens of thousands of people per year. Available now! thewaroncars.org/2024/06/25/1...
