Methane (aka natural gas) is a nasty climate pollutant, about 80x worse than the same mass of CO2 over the 20-25 years we have left to zero out emissions. Oil and gas companies often describe methane pollution as "leaks," but much of it is an intentional part of their daily operations.
@txsharon.bsky.social and I have two op-eds out this week explaining two important points about methane and the oil industry. 1) In places like the Permian, there is zero economic incentive for the industry to address methane emissions. 2) Even if there was, the laws of physics are a barrier.
Those methane “leaks” are no accident - Climate and Capital Mediawww.climateandcapitalmedia.com The oil and gas industry deliberately vent millions of pounds of natural gas and other toxins into the air every year.

I hate the NYT as much as anyone but for fuck’s sake, Jamelle Bouie leaving is not going to fix that paper. These people trying to force some purity test on him, do literally anything else with your time. And, leave @gothamgirlblue.com alone

It’s because progressives think you win through running a fucking campaign that mobilizes people against long odds. And the Jared Goldins of the party think you win by offering soundbytes and raising money to spend on ad blitzes.

So people are talking about the fake version of the JD Vance sparkling water. Here’s the real one. And you know, as someone who had kind of a crash-course introduction to the world of the American elite, let me tell my very similar and extremely different story.
J. D. Vance: What I didn’t know how the world of the American elite workswww.foxnews.com I went to Yale to earn a law degree. But that first year at Yale taught me most of all that I didn’t know how the world of the American elite works.
