I think most consumer goods should have a government funded BASELINE version that's either free or absurdly cheap. Bicycle? Have a shitty 2-speed. Smartphone? Right this way we cut so many corners and its slow but now you have access to the smartphone economy. Bank account? Yes we do that too.

“They want to eliminate national parks” is a very simple way to get just about anyone on the Stop Project 2025 train. Are there much more glaring and life-threatening goals of P25? Yes but even your most bigoted cousin does not want to see the parks system sold for parts.

Zion NP is a prime example of moving people more efficiently with buses rather than cars. Through Zion Canyon cars aren’t allowed save few exceptions, and everyone needs to take the shuttle. While lines can and do occur for buses, the road would be a constant traffic jam otherwise

the other thing is that people have no sense of how much space cars and so they imagine that a road full of cars must be a lot of people when it very often is not. a well-used bike lane transports like twice as many people during a given time as does a road

I have eaten this and can report that it isn’t that bad. You’re eating grocery store sushi ok? Let’s not get too high on our horse about the cultural experience.
