Bolts is akin to Last Week Tonight: a much deeper dive on important issues than you're likely to get most anywhere else. Like, they have a guide to judicial elections. This is important stuff that gets skipped over by way too many outlets.
For folks who've appreciated my coverage of the French elections... @bolts.bsky.social is quite different—but we cover US politics with such attention to detail. So give us a follow if you've enjoyed this, and care about the US. And our newsletter is free! boltsmag.org/newsletter

Stephen Miller now following Trump's lead and saying he has nothing to do with Project 2025. 1. His organization is on the Project 2025 advisory board. 2. He recorded a video as part of Project 2025 training tools 3. You can see Mandate for Leadership, the Project 2025 publication in the background

Obvs these guys will govern again like ghouls no matter what branding they adopt—but I do think it’s fascinating that they are at least acting like Project 2025 is something to run away from
"I don't know anything about Project 2025" says man recording Project 2025 promotional video in front of Project 2025 publication. More substantively, Project 2025 has embraced Trump and Miller's immigration approach of using power to close both legal and illegal immigration.

Russ Vought, head of Trump's OMB, was the person who gave Chris Rufo and his "critical race theory" propaganda campaign it's big break in September 2020. Rufo, an obscure figure previously, had a Tucker Carlson appearance, then a few days later Vought reached out. www.yahoo.com/news/the-man...
lotta names from the grim recent history of the far right - Cuccinelli, Von Spakovsky - but it’s striking to me how much a minor functionary from the first time around, Russ Vought, is rising up to be a Big Bad

We have the best economy in the world. Right now, there are infrastructure projects, which had been lingering for decades, happening because of our bipartisan infrastructure bill. We have a million more jobs than when Trump was POTUS & we are finally addressing global warming Trump = inflation
"He's earned second term because of the job he's done" is a perfectly good message for surrogates to make about an incumbent candidate. "I've earned a second term because of the job I've done," is fine, but not really an optimal message for the candidate to make, imho.

Compassionate release is typically used for dying or medically incapacitated prisoners. But it's for the first time being considered as a reparative measure for women who were sexually abused while in federal custody. boltsmag.org/federal-pris... boltsmag.org/federal-pris...

one of trump's strokes of genius (and yes I think he is an evil genius) is just not having any written policy positions any time anyone says "so you support X" he can just say "no I don't" he does it over and over again, and the media never calls him on it
even trump’s campaign staff (i assume he didn’t write this) knows that the reactionary, authoritarian agenda that’s project 2025 is going to be unpopular with the average voter.

One thing about the “Why I don’t vote” guy that may be especially interesting to journalists from the Washington Post and other outlets is that according to the public Michigan voter file, apparently he does vote
He voted in both 2020 and 2022.

If you think of an argument as ONLY being about “beating” an opponent, you might appear to win when they stop talking. But if you want to change their opinions, or move them, you have to understand what they are feeling and what they need to hear to be persuaded to change.

It's incredibly disturbing how little attention the media is paying to an insurgency that will lead to a permanent seizure of power. It's all right in the open, FFS.

this is a brilliant point that I was struggling to articulate.
Speaking as a semanticist, it's wild to me that they are phrasing it in terms of whether an *act* is characterized as "official", when what they seem to actually be talking about is whether there exists a *description* of the act that can be characterized as "official".

As someone who researches sexual violence law for a living, I'm pretty sure that is not a valid defense argument against allegations of sexual assault.

Easy to lose sight of the significance here, but the sitting president just gave a speech condemning the Supreme Court for a ruling that expands presidential power. It’s also a president who stands to benefit from this ruling, given that his opponent is vowing to imprison him and his family.
