The survivors, brought to their senses by the disaster, gave chase to the woman; but she, laughing in mockery, changed herself into a wren and flew away.

Granted I’m a big prisons nerd, but still, it’s been a whole day, and I’m really surprised at how happy this has made me. A day on and I’m elated by it. (Timpson was also chair of the Prison Reform Trust.)
For those who don't know: this is James Timpson of Timpson key cutters/shoe repairs/dry cleaners. His company employs ex-convicts and even runs work training programmes in prisons. Genuinely inspired choice.

I can already feel that the Tory leadership race is gonna give me an ulcer, because of the number of people on the centre and left who have neither read a history book nor the news saying things like “hopefully the Tory party will move to the right”.

Meanwhile over at the Telegraph, a leader writer wonders if a community taking part in the democratic process means its time to stop "handing citizenship out" to them. The absolute state of this.
The lobby did a generally decent job last night. But this language/mindset around British Muslim voting trends is profoundly unsettling and offensive.

If Bourbaki was the expression of French structuralism in mathematics, Grothendieck was the expression of French post-structuralism in mathematics. Eventually he post-structuralismed himself right out of mathematics.

The fact is... looking over these results... these mad results... well... do they not reflect more accurately British society as it actually *is* than recent elections? I suppose the lack of jeopardy encouraged that.

The Welsh language, like all Celtic languages, has a very recent history of violent marginalisation by anglophones and quite frankly you know what by also being anglos you are proactive participants in it when you contribute to a culture of denigrating and mocking it

He has held on to slime another day.
Have heard a rumour that Wes Streeting might lose to a local pro-peace-in-Gaza independent. Lol. Lmao.

A general theme of this night: transphobia is not a vote winner.
Mordaunt gone. Guess the pivot to transphobia didn't help.

I think it's good for the party to get pressure to its left, because otherwise I'm worried they'll just bend towards Reform.
Yeah, that's a shame, Ashworth was generally a pretty good guy. More broadly Labour are clearly getting hit from the left more than they expected. Likely it won't hit the majority too much, it likely won't affect more than a single figure number of seats. But it's still notable.

Everything we’ve seen suggests the exit poll is underestimating the scale of Labour and Liberal Democrat gains and electoral efficiency, and overestimating Reform and the Conservatives.

There have been a few cases now where the exit poll fprecast has been shown to fall in the case of unusual individual seat behaviour, maybe an even worse night for the tories is possible still

I am not going to moralise to anyone else what the principles under which they vote should be but I will say that I simply do not agree with the general thesis that voting for a party always means a wholesale endorsement of /every single plank of their platform/

I just saw a post basically encouraging Labour voters to engage in suicidally depressive thinking! What the fuck!
