I'll say more about this in my newsletter today but the "tempers flare" narrative on supposed acrimony between Trump and anti-abortion GOPers is not a secret fight that the press has exposed. It's a performance meant to reassure anti-abortion voters that Trump will do what they want.
Tempers flare as Trump reviews revised abortion plank for Republican platformwww.washingtonpost.com The former president wants the platform to endorse leaving the issue to the states rather than a federal ban in the wake of Roe v. Wade’s demise.

This is journalistic malpractice. The Biden admin was working on Parkinson's policy.
Breaking News: A Parkinson’s expert visited the White House eight times in eight months from last summer through this spring, according to official visitor logs. The administration has said that President Biden has no signs of the disease.

Still marveling at Gorsuch's Ohio v. EPA opinion, in which he confused nitrogen oxide (a pollutant) with nitrous oxide (laughing gas). He did this five times, never once getting it right—in an opinion overruling the EPA's own expert scientific analysis! s3.documentcloud.org/documents/24...

One thing that's clear from the Biden/age story is this: NYT knows how to crusade when it wants to. And NYT is crusading against Biden's mental unfitness for office in a way it's just not doing with Trump. On the pod, @whstancil.bsky.social and I break this all down: newrepublic.com/article/1835...
Trump’s Wildly Unhinged Attack on NYT Should Wake Up Media: He’s Unfitnewrepublic.com With Trump slamming The Times even as it crusades against Biden, a press critic explains how Trump scams the media into adopting a huge double standard on each man's fitness to serve.

I saw some of these when visiting Boston a couple of weeks ago and was surprised - coming from Texas where such signs are unimaginable and would probably wind up with hostile news coverage, lawsuits, and harassment from government

Long election campaigns also put the emphasis, over and over again, ON THE ELECTION rather than on governing: like voting is all we as citizens have to do; like winning is the most important quality in a candidate. GOVERNING. The thing is GOVERNING. Elections should be a means of accountability+
Long elections waste immense amounts of money. they harass potential voters into apathy. They play into the horse-race, scandal-fed view of politics that feeds deeply unserious media coverage. They NOT INCIDENTALLY make it difficult/impossible for campaigns to deal with last-minute surprises.

I can't confirm because I'm on neither of these platforms, but funny if true
Wow. @nytimes.com has closed their Threads account and left the platform after days of getting just shredded in the replies for their handling of Biden post debate. Now they're getting dog piled on Instagram for running from Threads.

and then somehow for whatever surely unrelated reason she was absolutely pilloried in a million different articles for being mean to poor dear sweet innocent Sarah Huckabee Sanders and forced to apologize even though nothing she said about her was untrue or even THAT harsh
Just a reminder that Michelle Wolf nailed it at the White House Correspondents Dinner. NYT, I’m looking in your direction especially.

13 year olds have been ripping their teachers behind their backs since the dawn of formal schooling. I could see this being a really interesting profile of a school with some obvious culture problems, but turning it into a fake trend piece on mean teens is an absolutely wild thing to do.
Seventh and eighth graders in Malvern, Pennsylvania, impersonating their teachers posted disparaging, lewd, racist and homophobic videos on TikTok. The incident is the first known mass attack of its kind by middle schoolers on their teachers in the U.S.

So here is a thread of revelations from Rolling Stone (see article link below) about Trump's "week from hell"
I'm as distressed about the Biden stuff as anyone, but we have to be able to do two things at once. Proposal: Every time one skeets or otherwise talks or writes about Biden, plz also say something about the imperative for democracy of beating Trump. www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

I mean, I know this is useless to say almost but if Biden were retweeting right now a meme grown out of a violent conspiracy theory movement that says Republicans and Hollywood are running a satanic pedophile cult, he’d be immediately forced out but it’s Trump so media & politicos are all 🤷‍♂️
In the exact same nine day period that Biden and his White House and campaign have been flailing, Trump has offered voters a window into his own mental state and vision for term 2 It’s not great! www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

I think of this song today, even though it turns out it has little to do with July 4 and instead, as Chris Cornell put it, “Woke up, dropped some acid, got into the car and went to the Indian reservation.” Also, damn I miss Chris Cornell. www.revolvermag.com/music/watch-...

I’d only add that: After decades of insistence that finality of state court judgments and no retroactivity are sacred, the Supreme Court can absolutely be expected to interfere with a final state-law judgment against Donald Trump, and to do so retroactively.
/3 5 or 6 SCOTUS judges, who normally love harmless error like a 15-year-old-boy loves a tube sock, will find that it doesn’t apply to introduction of evidence of Presidentially-immune acts, and that the NY court didn’t analyze official acts doctrine right and remand for more proceedings.
