If I’m reading this correctly, they tend to think Great Valley counties in the south count but those in the north don’t. Frederick Co is one mountain east of the Valley (Shenandoah in this case). I dunno, it is a weird choice but maybe it used to make more sense before the DC metro expanded.

The rivers on this otherwise very cool map are getting to me. Some type of GIS error has some, but not all, translated in various directions
There are varying definitions of which places belong to the cultural region of Appalachia. None of them include Republican Sen. J.D. Vance's hometown of Middletown, Ohio.

I’d say by the same reasoning that if Biden’s debate barely moved his numbers, he’s at his floor. And they’re tied.

if Trump getting shot and then immediately the RNC doesn’t pump Trump’s numbers up a bit my inference would be that he is at ceiling in terms of positive poll response bias

Then why didn’t they invite the lords in, wise guys

If you hate capitalism bros, wait until you see feudalism bros
It’s darkly funny to read shit about weirdo freak philosophers because, contrary to what ‘theory’ suggests, the most crazy racist guys all absolutely *despise* capitalism. That doesn’t make capitalism good, but it does illustrate how meaningless ‘anticapitalist’ is as a metric of political morality

That's about where PACER is at now. So, unlikely to be used unless you have a financial interest in something.

I know I've said it before, but I love Companies House. So many stories hiding in plain sight.

That's what I was thinking, too. Being the front creator is a great weird-future sort of job.

I do wonder the handful of footballers and other non-porn content creators they have, and promote relentlessly. And more so if they have any fans on there. Like going to the red light district to see your sports hero, or for a book reading.

It's interesting what gets commoditized and what doesn't, and what remains labor intensive despite technological innovation. That's where the large sums end up going.

I'm sure you know this, but it's still interesting: British private companies' revenue is public info. For large enough companies, so is the balance sheet. Most relevantly here is OnlyFans. Their model is obviously very different, but in their FY 2022 they had $1.1B revenue from $5.6B payments.

Ahh, I gotcha. Makes sense, given his background.

Oh, I might be misunderstanding; quickly skimming the Wiki page, I was expecting them to behave more like how Welsh "y" works, as you said. But in Irish, which I'm more familiar with, multiple mutations can occur in the same context with different semantics--which I think is what you're saying, too?
Avatar
For example: in Irish "a" is the third person possessive pronoun. Number and gender are express via which mutation (lenition/eclipsis/h-prothesis) follows; alas, since not all mutations surface in all contexts, how much info you get depends upon the initial sound of the object.

I've been dithering, but today I cancel my NYT games subscription, which is just so my dad can do the crosswords. I forgot that you have to talk to a person when you cancel anything with them ...and they encourage them to argue with you. C'mon, this isn't fun for anyone.
Avatar
It wasn't because of this, I'm only just seeing it now, but it was because of this sort of thing. The nation's foremost paper of record can't pull this shit.
I cannot emphasize enough that straight reporting in the NYT should be verified elsewhere if you want to be sure about it. The standards are appalling.
Avatar
I'm excited to see that it has initial mutations, as any faux-Celtic language should, but somewhat disappointed to see that they don't have semantics

I have a legacy Social Security Administration online account. It's being transitioned to a login.gov account. This is personally annoying, but it's a good thing: having a single account will make interacting with the federal government a lot easier for people. I hope this sort of change continues.
Avatar
The government can be good. The government can be not annoying. It is not an American virtue that government be unpleasant. Do not believe the people who make it intentionally unpleasant, as they do so so that you will hate it.

Unironically think that tipping the economy towards Biden is the optimal policy for keeping inflation under control long run. Fed won’t be independent under Trump and we all know autocrats love inflationary policy.
Avatar
This is interesting. Where I think it fails is that the storytelling itself remains obsessed with lineage. Abram’s had a chance to fully disavow it by yes-anding TLJ and he refused, so it ends up having a weak effect due to moving in the wrong direction. “I’m not a Capetian, I’m a Bonaparte!”

That the Muslim SD is so much lower—yet they still think the smaller sample is good enough—is highly suspect. Whatever they’re measuring, if it isn’t directly related to Muslimness, it should be incredibly variable for such a huge and heterogeneous population, more so than specific Prot. religions
Avatar
Okay, fine, I see it’s just white Muslims, but if they’re using the federal gov’t’s definition of white that’s still a hugely diverse group. But that’s caliper-wielders for you
