NYU students who participated in encampment are still currently banned from campus and must complete ‘reflection papers’ on why their behavior was ostensibly lacking integrity.

No seriously I read the whole module and it tells students they have to watch and analyse the episode of the Simpsons where Lisa cheats and write multiple essays about it 😭😭😭
“Some consider it particularly sanctimonious that NYU is punishing student activists using Symplicity “ethics” assignments because in 2014, Symplicity pleaded guilty in Federal court on criminal hacking charges targeting educational SaaS competitors.”
There are loopholes for dorms in terms of eviction laws (I'm not saying it's okay, but that's how they're getting away with it). In terms of restricting students from classes/ other buildings, it's almost certainly true that NYU is violating its own rules on procedure.
These will be fun. I expect them to be, eg.: mockingly over top; to contain hidden messages; to be written in Arabic; written on photos of war crimes; etc, etc.
My brother was 13 in 1965 and was arrested for possession of marijuana (when the cops showed up, the dummy stopped to pick up the pot).
Sentenced to see a psychiatrist and to write a 10-page paper on the dangers of weed.
He Well, Ackshully-ed the paper, but made sure it fit the sentence requirements
it's cool to know that "lack of integrity" is basically saying "we want power over you, you WILL bend the knee and kiss our puckered asses so we *maybe* pretend to forgive you"
"I'm sorry for making racists feel bad about their racism. Also, I now realize that the US economy is reliant on commodifying oppression as a economic service that questioning this is a genuine threat to the US economy. So, the protest I participated in was not just un-American but anti-American."
I don't understand at all. If they are Persona non grata, and they don't face criminal charges, what hold does NYU have over them to make them do this? Is that what it takes to make them Persona grata? Or is something else involved?
Off the top of my head : completing the very expensive degree they're part way through and won't get a refund on. (Don't actually know how US higher education works but probably something in that direction).
Here you go, it's further down the release 'The disciplinary letters for students subjected to both assignments note that “Failure to sufficiently complete this sanction will result in a censure being placed on your academic transcript.”'
They could probably transfer the credits to another institution, but NYU has prestige, is in the heart of Manhattan, etc., and so it wouldn't be an easy decision to just give it up. Plus other universities might deny them due to this history now.
I would write about how Israel is committing genocide on stolen land, just like the United States did for three hundred years, until they subdued the rest of the Native Americans, before realizing their tourist potential. I would point out the immorality of universities that invest in Israel. A+
It's just so great that these administrators a) assigned writing as a punishment, and b) outsourced the administration of the punishment to an outside company. Just great, guys. (sarcasm)
