Our republic keeps getting more and more banana. We're approaching the banana republic singularity. Not a singularity we should be aiming for IMO, but here we are.

This Orban shuttle diplomacy between Russia, China, and Trump smells like late-stage planning for a geopolitical October surprise.

I really don’t think most people realize just how hard the boot will come down if Trump and the Republicans win the election. Most people have never experienced the totalitarian surveillance state with the power to reach into their homes and minds at will they are telling us is their plan.

An aspiring dictator & convicted felon w history of treason may win the presidency. Profoundly corrupt SCOTUS justices undermined the constitution and gave him immunity from prosecution for past & future crimes. This is all political journalists should be writing about 24/7. We’re at the precipice.

So some astronauts stranded at ISS by Boeing's Starliner may need to be bailed out by SpaceX. Too soon to tell for sure. Here's hoping for the best and safest outcome. Can't help but think - if Boeing is going to strand anyone in space it should be Boeing's executive leadership.

Feels like Boeing is no longer fit for purpose.
Boeing Starliner’s return was delayed again. It will not happen before July 2. There’s no reason to think the vehicle won’t be able to bring crew home but…this is just getting more and more embarrassing for Boeing.

Not good.
Republicans have effectively criminalized studying how information moves on the internet at the request of a handful of billionaires and racists. I was writing a book about this, but went and did some other thing. If someone wants my notes or wants to talk to me about who to talk to, let me know.

I work on climate professionally. Django is right.
Look. I care about climate change a lot. I'm close to a single-issue voter on the subject! But we have GOT to stop worrying about what are, in the scheme of things, rounding errors. I hate, hate, hate this kind of personal-responsibility climate stuff, it's deeply counterproductive.

also the conservatives never fuckin shut up i can hear them clearly even inside my bubble they never fuckin shut up
The frequently asserted conservative belief that liberals grow up in bubbles and aren't exposed to conservative ideas and so need to be forced to be exposed to conservative ideas is so far removed from reality it's insulting.

unconscionable behavior by the feds in this case. miserable overreach. terrible tragedy for Aaron and such a loss for all the rest of us.
Whenever I download a free article from JSTOR, I think about all the people who tried to throw Aaron Swartz into prison for decades for trying to make JSTOR content free.
