Everything, good or bad, has a cost, so I understand it’s worth mentioning that France might have some legislative gridlock because of their coalition, but to say that cost comes anywhere near the costs of having (or benefits of not having) a fascist government is a nonsensical way of framing it
My guess is that Trump knows very little about P25 *and* it will be the blueprint for his administration. He’s famously bored by policy. He’ll appoint these people because they’re loyal. They’ll then go to work on the plan while he grifts, golfs, and gives two-hour speeches at rallies.
Trump: I don't know anything about Project 2025
Here is a list of all the Trump officials who authored the Project 2025 blueprint, Mandate for Leadership. 25 of 36 were part of the Trump administration.

The entire game of making right wingers “patriots” and liberals “America haters” is about gerrymandering what you’re allowed to be proud of in American history and what counts as hatred. Pride in The New Deal doesn’t count and hatred of immigrants and America’s largest cities doesn’t count either.
those arguing that taylor swift can't be a role model because she is an unmarried and childless woman at 34 are doing a great job of arguing that children need more women role models who are unmarried and childless at 34
just watched 74 people speaking at least a dozen different languages become american citizens in a ceremony at monticello, where the speakers were themselves children of immigrants. inspiring stuff and a vivid illustration of what reactionaries want to snuff out
what left and the right both understand is that we are approaching a moment of constitutional rupture. what the right understands and the left does not is that extraconstitutional violence is not some magic "i win" button. rather the rupture will proceed through the forms and orders of american law.
Heritage Foundation president celebrates Supreme Court presidential immunity ruling: "We are in the process of the second American Revolution, which will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be" www.mediamatters.org/project-2025...
Not that anyone particularly cares about original meaning, but think folks should still say it out loud: For all of the things that are unclear in the founding documents and unknowabilities of what the Founders intended, "the President can kill anyone or commit a coup" was *never* legally arguable
More than anything, SCOTUS made the character of the President more important than ever, and they did it for one of the worst people to ever be President
trump just called for liz cheney to be prosecuted for treason which, according to john roberts, is an official act and would not be subject to criminal sanction
If the lower court understood the present moment, this would be its response:
"The court is surprised this needs to be said, but anything related to a coup attempt is not an official act. That includes all of the conduct in the indictment. Trial begins September 1st."
Opinion basically comes down to "official actions are immune, unofficial aren't" and the court says that since lower courts have not made a determination on that question, they need to go do that. Beyond me to determine how feasible that is, but absolutely delays the trial.
Been saying for years: Netanyahu is at best callously indifferent to the diaspora and happy to ally with those who hate us. At worst, he thinks it’s a positive good to make out lives worse so as to encourage Aliyah.
Ethnonationalists believe that like belongs with like.
The far-right National Rally leader is unconditionally opposed by French Jewish groups for her party's historic antisemitism. Israel's diaspora affairs minister, however, is 'impressed' by her positions, adding that Netanyahu is seemingly 'of the same opinion'

Big hat tip to @jbouie.bsky.social for treating uncertainties as uncertain, with both downside and upside potential, rather than what many pundits are doing: imagine a positive scenario and act as if things will smoothly go that way if only people try it.
Doesn't seem like a high bar. And yet...
The first step to good election punditry and academic election research, which must be accepted at the outset or else good work is impossible, is that the median voting block is nothing like you.
Your personal intuitions do not offer good guidance.

Not long ago, one of the men on the stage tried to overthrow American democracy. And we're having a normal debate like it's 2012 about the economy, budget deficit, etc.
No reason you should have, but also no reason for you to come up with a personal charge that I've abandoned my principles as if you know what my principles are better than I do.
Could we both stand down?
Unfortunately, the cheapest polarized sunglasses you can get at 7-11 all but ensure you look like you say racist things in the comments of an AOC tweet
It’s really important for these folks to do this and be applauded, regardless of their other politics. It’s (apparently) very very hard to stand on principals over party.
When Adam Kinzinger launched his career, he welcomed Sarah Palin's and Tea Party groups' backing. The idea that he'd end up endorsing a Democratic president 14 years later seemed far-fetched.
But here we are. www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddo...
