The "use case" for LLMs is: Spam. Everywhere.

Amazon's digital library is already a swamp. Impossible to search for anything on the Kindle store now. The bestseller lists are full of AI junk hooked up to click farms. Bots reading books written by bots.

Just landed on a Wikipedia page with information that was obviously incorrect and followed the citation link which directed me to ChatGPT generated news garbage. Wikipedia has long been almost impossibly resilient, but LLMs are really reallllly going to strain this resource

The internet’s promise was always a libertarian fantasy, but there were still benefits to be had for most people. As commercial pressures escalated, those benefits were slowly eroded and the drawbacks grew. Now generative AI could kill them altogether.
The digital revolution has faileddisconnect.blog The benefits of the internet are eroding. The AI boom is only accelerating their demise.

Generative AI is poison for an internet dominated by algorithms, filling Etsy full of dropshipped stuff with AI art and Amazon with thousands of cheap eBook knockoffs, all while crowding out the work of real sellers making real products for real people. tinyurl.com/wyea31124

I believe that platforms like Google don't *want* to fix the AI crap problem - they want to use generative AI as a means to sift through an internet they destroyed as one of a few sources of truth in a wasteland of generic information they ultimately own.  tinyurl.com/wyea31124

I just did a "Moebius" search in Google images. Nonsensical AI badly imitating the style is all over the place, what a disaster. We urgently need an "exclude generated content" in any search tool!

We're using AI to generate content which will then be reviewed/edited by another AI. Now all we need is AI readers to remove human beings from literature entirely. why are we doing this

this ad started with the text line “by 2025 artificial intelligence will generate 90% of online content” and I got hit with a wave of revulsion and despair so hard I had to pause what I was doing.

just what we needed, more spam, faster spam that consumes itself to make more spam an ouroboros of spam

A study was done where researches trained an LLM on content generated by other LLMs and after a few iterations, it began spitting out incoherent gibberish. Hopefully, as the internet becomes clogged with this content and LLMs train on it, they’ll become useless.

well, yeah, but we lose a useful tool for no good reason other than we've somehow let these profiteering freaks control everything

It's obvious to anyone with even a basic understanding of how they work, that this _must_ be the outcome. Nobody selling this shit cares as long as there's a quick buck in it.

I have been trying to explain this to people for close to two years now lol, no alleged, potential positive use for it is worth the trade off of making every repository of information completely fucking useless and jammed to the brim with junk

Jokes aside I read a piece in the baffler in 2022 talking about Google specifically and pointing out that Google wanted to replace regular search indexing with llm models, to get more eyes on the right links, and *gestures at google* have you tried that lately? Because have and it’s terrible.
