Bah. the post I was responding to was deleted as I posted... But the point stands. The fact that a bunch of "antitrust reformers" have been absolutely happy to cozy up with authoritarians solely because they both "hate big tech" has been pretty annoying.

The sequel was pretty dope too. Cats bee or something.

Fyi to journalists: Hillbilly Elegy is not about the brave nobility of rural poor/working class people. It’s deeply insulting to rural poor people - presenting them as lazy addicts who rely on welfare instead of working. The book is about how amazing Vance was to escape that backwards culture.

the GOP wanted to scare tech giants away from moderating racist right wing propaganda online, so they put on this little pseudo-populist stage play pretending they cared about antitrust reform and holding corporations accountable and huge swaths of the press bought it hook, line, and sinker
One More Time With Feeling: The GOP Never Seriously Supported ‘Antitrust Reform’ Or Monopoly Bustingwww.techdirt.com For the last few years, press and policy circles were absolutely dominated by talk about how there was an amazing “new, bipartisan coalition” of folks interested in “reining in ‘Big Tech&#821…

This week's newsletter: It's time to call BS on generative AI and demand that companies like OpenAI actually provide useful, helpful software, and actively reject the growing coterie of hucksters using AI as a marketing tool to get media headlines. www.wheresyoured.at/put-up-or-sh...

It helps mitigate, but doesn't address the crux of the issue which is what happens when nakedly partisan or corrupt actors get put in place, something Republicans have gone to great lengths to establish a feeder apparatus to achieve.

I agree with expansion, but it must come with enforceable ethics oversight, a realistically achievable removal mechanism, and, imo, term limits. You have to make the juice not worth the squeeze for people who want to capture the court.

This is personal. While my mom's behavior could have resulted in an annulment, my dad would have had to admit something that still carries a lot of stigma, disbelief, and derision. No-fault divorce benefits men, too. Violent marriages benefit no one.
I know we know about JD Vance, but he's also working to make divorces harder to obtain, and says that people in "violent" marriages should stay married and not get divorced. So.

It is comically irresponsible how the news media claims Trump is a "changed man" and "somber" and "serene" and "adopting a new tone"

So, not applicable. Unless your salary is under a certain threshold and you live in certain states, you weren't eligible for overtime pay, which is what this is about about.
Avatar
If you, as a non-exempt employee negotiate with your employer to work above 40 hours in a week in exchange for time off at a later date that is a separate and distinct issue from being owed 1.5 pay for hours above 40 in the week worked. Not paying it is wage theft whether the employee agrees or not.
Avatar
Do they work 60 hours in a week and then choose to have 20 hours rolled into the following week where they only work 20 so they only get paid? Cause that's what the proposal is about, a shell game with owed overtime pay, not a negotiation of working hours which you can already do.
Avatar
*only get paid two 40s instead of 60 normal and 20 overtime

Some people pay extra for that.

if you’re trying to engage with politically disconnected people about project 2025, identify a specific part that you think will resonate with them. i just told my friend who’s a public school teacher about the plan to abolish the department of education and that got her hooked.
