Stancil was correct
What we're seeing with Twitter and even the fringier stuff; Truth Social, Gab, Rumble, etc. is really important. It is an extension of what happened on cable and radio. The right wing owns and builds platforms. They control the media means of production. It's had a massive effect.

Just gonna re-up this piece I wrote last week for @techpolicypress.bsky.social. Andreessen’s entire political agenda is just “the government should help my investment portfolio by not investigating fraud.” What an empty husk of a man. www.techpolicy.press/the-little-t...
Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz to every woman, LGBTQ+ person and immigrant who works in tech: you’re disposable if doing this makes us even more money
The “Little Tech Agenda” is Just Self-Serving Nonsense | TechPolicy.Presswww.techpolicy.press The “Little Tech Agenda” has nothing to do with innovation or technology. It’s just a VC wish list, writes Dave Karpf.

The interest that UK Tories have with American right wing politics makes me think that the internet has made their independence vestigial and they'd be happier applying for statehood

not really sure that choosing the authoritarian oaf for vice-president really does much to distance the campaign from project 2025’s “government by authoritarian oaf” vision

This is what AOC and Bernie get for sticking by Biden, and we can debate the policy, but this is a super-tangible win for the left side of the Democratic Party

In Opinion “I will do all that I can to see that President Biden is re-elected,” Senator Bernie Sanders writes in a guest essay, adding: ”With an effective campaign that speaks to the needs of working families, he will not only defeat Mr. Trump but beat him badly.”

Genuinely bizarre outcome of the post debate debacle fallout is that now Biden is getting a ton of earned media and for the first time in years getting straightforwardly positive news stories written about him

i think this is pretty reasonable and objections i have to Biden stepping down over and above that are generally of the form "so how you gonna make him do that" and "what happens next" and "jesus have you guys thought about any of this shit"
my view on whether Biden should stay or step down varies between "I don't fucking know" and "I DON'T FUCKING KNOW, BUT AT HIGHER VOLUME" based on how much caffeine I've had

1/ I've always maintained that reason Biden's been behind is that he's had a low approval and the election has been a referendum on his presidency. To win, he needs people to understand that the alternative is worse. With some Project 2025 stuff going mainstream, I think we're starting to see that.

A lot of folks signed up for Biden 2020 thinking it would be Obama Part 3, & I think there's a fair bit of buyer's remorse at the top. The donors do *not* like how far the party has moved away from them, & they feel like they don't have a candidate. So they're trying to get one.
cynical interpretation of the $90m donor money freeze is actually that the admin has been too pro-labor for their tastes and this coupcoupnut drama has been a perfect cover for them

Just my opinion but I feel like this points at a very rewarding campaign strategy which is to do as many events as possible with unions & service workers. You are going to lose non-college grads but the question is by how much, and grads will not punish you for foregrounding workers
The most interesting part of polling to me continues to be education polarization. Trump is +13 with non-college grads, Biden is +25(!) with college grads. Probably tells you something about why the right is so desperate to destroy higher ed (and ed in general)

idk what the right thing to do is but it's pretty telling to me that the people in politics who I respect like AOC and Bernie are saying "we gotta make sure the leaky rowboat doesn't sink" and the people drilling holes in the bottom are like, Scott Peters
Like my feeling since Biden wrapped up the nomination has been that Biden is a leaky rowboat we've all been crammed into, and while being on a leaky rowboat sucks I'm rooting for it not to sink and annoyed at the other people on the boat who are seemingly determined to drill more holes in it.

US equity market had massive "atoms over bits" vibes today. NVDA down over 5% but homebuilders rose over 7%, third-best day since at least 2003 for equally-weighted S&P 500 stocks relative to market-cap weighted S&P 500 stocks, small caps soared while Tesla dropped 8%.

i sort of doubt this has anything to do with "A.I. took everyone's jobs" than with "saying A.I. took everyone's jobs sounds a lot better to investors than 'the government letting people file their taxes for free without buying turbotax fucks our business'"

Yesterday's BNEF report on LFP batteries costing just $59/kWh got me thinking about pumped hydro. I remember an NYT story years ago about a pumped hydro project in the Grand canyon that tribes opposed. The details I noted were that it was going to take over a decade to build and cost over $100/kWh.
Batteries with moderately good energy density for $50/kWh would have been seen as a miraculous science fiction technology a decade ago. Now LFP batteries like this are here, in production, being put in in real cars being built in China.
China’s Batteries Are Now Cheap Enough to Power Huge Shiftswww.bloomberg.com We no longer need to model for when cell prices drop far enough to decarbonize road transport. That day is here.
