BREAKING NEWS: Voters turned out in numbers not seen in decades to stop the far-right National Rally from taking power in the French National Assembly. Polls predicted a first-place finish for National Rally, which instead came in third in initial results as polling stations closed.

Seattle residents! Contact your City Council people before Tuesday to express support for this legislation. It waives codes that currently make it impossible to convert office spaces to residential ones. This will help with the housing crisis! www.king5.com/article/news...

Folks, that's the buzzer and the final score is Blink 182, Eve 6. What a sorry spectacle this has been. Easily the most lopsided contest since Eiffel vs. Maroon

Here in sudden swing state Georgia, at least, Dem PACs (and the Biden campaign itself) ARE doing that. I've been seeing a LOT of DICTATOR/FELON/RAPIST/SCAMMER commercials. GOP PACs are only just now reacting with INFLATION ad buys
Nothing is stopping every single Democratic elected official and apparatchik from taking the airwaves every single day to articulately and decisively repeat a set of cogent talking points about Trump (ie 45). Nothing. Dem PACs could be slamming him with ads now. Stop whining and do that.

This is particularly important to understand because Trumpist authoritarianism is the descendent of Jim Crow far more than say Hitler or Pinochet or Orban, and it's going to look a lot more like 1930s Mississippi than 1930s Berlin.
For most of its history, America hasn’t been a democracy, by any meaningful definition of the term! This isn’t some It Can’t Happen Here shit, in a way, it’s already happened. It just may not have directly affected you.

I like the coconut tree memes as much as everyone else but I do think we should all be on the same page about Harris's quote actually making sense when you realize she was telling a story about her mom and illustrating a point about education. www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-roo...

Google’s emissions are up 48% in 5 years. Microsoft’s are up 30% since 2020. Those soaring figures are being driven by mass investments in data centers to power AI tools. Generative AI is a climate disaster and data center expansion must be stopped.

Not to be corny but I do think the ongoing aspiration to make America a pluralist democracy of equals is righteous, beautiful, and worth honoring, even if it has more often been the struggle of minorities & dissenters than the policy of the government. 🇺🇸

Over at the Bad Place, I made a tradition of posting Douglass' "What, To The Slave, Is The Fourth of July," and I intend to carry on that tradition here. Since most versions you read in classes or in textbooks have parts omitted, the link below has the full text of the speech.
(1852) Frederick Douglass, "What, To The Slave, Is The Fourth Of July" •www.blackpast.org On July 5, 1852, Frederick Douglass was invited to address the citizens of his hometown, Rochester, New York. Whatever the expectations of his audience on that 76th anniversary of the signing of the D...

Horrifying. All, if you know young ppl who will use fireworks these next few weeks, please do what you can to either discourage them entirely or make sure they use them safely. Hundreds of young ppl will be in the ER with firework injuries this month. Many of these injuries will be life altering.
Coworker's friend's son blew up his face and hand this weekend. They thought he might lose the hand. Kids, just leave fireworks to the pros

Pointing again at my US Blue State Challenge. If you live in a "blue state", pick the red state you hate the most and the issue you care about the most and find a group in that state working on that issue and support them.
One thing I don’t understand is why, when people are outraged by some injustice or affront — like book bans — they don’t first look to see who is already tracking the issue, who’s already working on education + organization. “We need to do something!” People *are*. Find them. Help them.

Having looked at the details: Decatur, Georgia, you’re up right now, they are actively recruiting there! Mineola, New York, you’re on deck, they’ve got you listed but flagged as ‘not yet recruiting’. The intranasals look to be our best hope(s) for a sterilising covid vaccine, so this is important!
Want to sign up to participate in the clinical trial for an intranasal COVID vaccine? They're taking 60 volunteers who have had at least one dose of vaccine. They're recruiting both people who've had COVID & people who haven't. Go here in for the details: www.clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT064...
