What this shows is that Vance is aware of how the strategic racism he has embraced with MAGA works and who it hurts. And he's decided to use that evil for his advancement.
Someone should create a book consisting of deleted and/or retracted comments by JD Vance and call it “Conscience of a Conservative.” This is a tweet he deleted when he ran for Senate.

Psst: Project 2025 is terrifying for a lot of reasons but also because on page 5 it calls for teachers and librarians who grant access to books that are maligned as pornography (which just means anything LGBTQ) to be registered as sex offenders. Pass it on.

As Judge Cannon steps up right on cue to remind us all just how much faith we should have in American institutions.
WSJ this morning. lol at the last bit. "Leaders on both sides need to stop describing the stakes of the election in apocalyptic terms. Democracy won't end if one or the other candidate is elected. Fascism is not aborning if Mr. Trump wins, unless you have little faith in American institutions."

Well I'm given to understand that today & for a VERY limited time, our nation's political violence party is shocked—shocked!—to learn that we currently live in a world of normalized political violence, and would like very much to know who is to blame. Full Essay: www.the-reframe.com/gambling-in-...

Scholars often ask me what they can do, and this is a tangible thing. State and local media are, in particular, hungry for opinion pieces from experts. Lots of people targeting that media is more effective than lots of people trying to land that one NYT op-ed
Junior Scholars: Project 2025 is now breaking through to public consciousness. The more people learn about it, the more they hate it. Now is a great time to search that website, go to the section of your expertise, and write an oped. Keep the drip of bad news for them coming, all the way to Nov.

For historians, the retrospective legitimation of essentially every criminal act Nixon committed while in office is quite mind-boggling. Ford’s pardon was utterly unnecessary.

Nothing says libertarian like denying others the freedom to celebrate liberation.

Telling, though not surprising at this point, that he thinks prosecutions are done by the powerful by “right," as opposed to a process of justice-seeking based on evidence, etc.
Former president Donald Trump said Wednesday that seeking prosecutions of his political opponents would be “wrong” but that he also would have “every right” to do so if reelected.

The kind of Libertarians who run “official” libertarian social media accounts now are overt brownshirts.
Wow, the party of liberty. Except when you disagree with them. Then it's ok to threaten you, call you "inhuman rot," and drive you from your home. ( @kenwhite.bsky.social you may find this, ahem, interesting)

I think there are a couple ways of viewing this, but one that appears valid to me is that there is a sizable part of the US population that has basically abandoned social justice as we know it as a liberal plank after 2020, and the WaPo was the last paper to stop feeding into that trend...
Don't worry kids, it's just an awkward coincidence that major news outlets like @washingtonpost.com and @thedailybeast.bsky.social are replacing their top editors with right-wing propagandists before the most fraught election in American history.

BREAKING! Nine witnesses in criminal cases against Donald Trump received financial benefits, including campaign raises, severance packages, new jobs, cash, and shares from Trump's media company. If prosecutors can prove that perks were intended to influence testimony, that could be a serious crime.

Justices can serve up to three seven-year terms, but have to be re-confirmed by the Senate before each one. (My “Nobody asked me, but …” proposal. Also, lots more Justices.)

Also, "And then, all of a sudden, you ended up with Hitler" is not a take anyone would have had they actually "studied history."

Calling @matthewdtaylor.bsky.social ! Did you know this bit of history of the “An Appeal to Heaven” flag from prior to when Sheets adopted it following the “prophesy” he rec’d?
In 1999 Walter Huss, the Holocaust-denying former chair of the Oregon Republican Party who had ties to a variety of white supremacists, neo-Nazis and far right domestic terrorists, printed out the full run of the Modern Militiaman's Internet Gazette. Page 1 featured Sam Alito's favorite flag.

The most chilling thing about this era isn't the growing number of explicit fascists, it's the way elite institutions refuse to even attempt to stop them.
