“pledge to run positive only campaigns” what the fuck is wrong with these people

this what happens when the political parties are dominated by ivy league nerds

These mistakes originalist justices are making aren’t about disputed interpretations of history, with evidence on both sides. They’re pulling quotes out of context to attribute ideas to founding figures that those figures adamantly opposed. (via @andycraig.bsky.social) reason.com/volokh/2024/...
The Supreme Court's Dubious Use of History in Department of State v. Munozreason.com Justice Amy Coney Barrett's majority opinion includes significant errors, and violates some of her own precepts against excessive reliance on questionable history.

folks from both coalitions and all the voters who were willing to be tactical as a result even if their preferred guy dropped out, credit all around I am delighted

This is so encouraging, and also a credit to every single politician who dropped out of the runoff so their votes could go to the second-place non-fascist candidate

competing theory of john roberts from @stevenmazie.bsky.social: maybe roberts is still trying to play the institutionalist game but has lost his read on how the court is perceived by the public x.com/stevenmazie/...

No politicians on the Court anymore and it shows. Last was O'Connor, state legislator. To appoint a governor or senator now, once common, would be nearly unthinkable. So we've got eight circuit judges and one ex-SG who are not just de facto politicians, they're very powerful *amateur* politicians.
Avatar
this is consistent with my general sense that many of the justices really, really don't understand both how much they are disliked by an increasingly fervent and expansive segment of population, and the extent to which those people are now paying attention in a way they weren't before

French exit poll news and which seems a good sign

France out here proving that actually you can tell the far right to go to hell even when it looks like they’re on track for a big victory are we going to let ourselves be shown up by the French?

I have never read one of these "we need a party for the politically homeless" pieces that does not go on to straightforwardly describe Democrats.

Senator Mike Lee: I don't recognize these white supremacists wearing masks, but they sure do remind me of Democrats.

the thing you really can't over-emphasize about reactionary centrists is how *dumb* they are www.persuasion.community/p/a-guide-fo...

"I don't know anything about Project 2025" says man recording Project 2025 promotional video in front of Project 2025 publication. More substantively, Project 2025 has embraced Trump and Miller's immigration approach of using power to close both legal and illegal immigration.
Avatar
Stephen Miller now following Trump's lead and saying he has nothing to do with Project 2025. 1. His organization is on the Project 2025 advisory board. 2. He recorded a video as part of Project 2025 training tools 3. You can see Mandate for Leadership, the Project 2025 publication in the background

It's amazing how confidently the media asserted that Biden's post debate polling was disastrous (including Stephanopoulos having an extended on air argument with Biden about it during yesterday's interview!) with basically zero evidence

One does wonder
OK but if Warner is worried about Biden losing (or Trump winning), where’s he been? He’s been more vocal about the threat of Tik Tok than the threat of Trump. He’s willing to go to the extraordinary measure of pushing out the Dem candidate last minute, but court expansion was too drastic for him.

It literally couldn't be more blatant.

17 Presidents were Senators, 15 were VPs. Harris has been both. Standard POTUS qualification stuff. There's been only one President who never held a high-ranking government post before: Donald Trump, and it showed through his incompetence and mismanagement.
Avatar
I mean it’s obviously racism but it’s especially wild that they’re doing this when her opponent’s qualifications would be that he is Donald Trump
Subtle. Very subtle.

Both from a standpoint of informing the public, reporting the truth, and simple self-preservation, their refusal to adequately cover Trump's radicalism and the immunity decision is inexcusable

Say what you will about the various Democratic party actors in the fight over whether Biden stays on the ticket, but I can understand all of their behavior much better than I can the journalists who are trying to write their way into the camps
