Everything sucks right now, but there’s a solid chance that a sudden loud noise will cause Trump to panic in very unflattering ways while he’s live on camera & I think that’s beautiful.
And this is how fascism wins. It convinces moderates to stop using the correct language to name what our enemy is and make no mistake. Trump and the Republicans are a fascist anti-democratic enemy to every real American who believes in the Constitution and rule of law. Do not stay silent.
The message is super simple: “Trump and the Republican Party have encouraged and mainstreamed political violence, something that can quickly spiral out of control and be used against the very people encouraging it. They are playing with fire and need to stop.”
Counterpose the obvious conclusion that encouraging political violence is unacceptable and dangerous with all the times Trump himself has done that. A dozen easy examples. Easy to do because it's true! It's appalling! Don't let his ass off the hook!
When things feel extra chaotic and overwhelming, here's what helps me:
-doing less
-resting more
-spending more on outsourcing tasks
-aggressive hydration
-high-protein meals
-weekly therapy
-scheduling offline activities like museums and long dog walks on weekends
-focusing on things in my control
And while you do the mutual aid, make comrades.
Build relationships and connection.
That's where our power lies: in our relationships.
Whatever comes, a more connected community is a more resilient and safer community.
The way forward is mutual aid. Feel lost, lonely, scared? There is a free fridge project or pantry near you. Make some sandwiches. I am absolutely not kidding about this. “Not Knowing What Else To Do, Woman Bakes American-Flag Cake” is not terrible advice if you give it away.

It really helps me to recenter myself to think “Oh right. The worst fucking people on the planet want me to feel like we’re doomed. Fuck those guys, actually.”
I’m not saying things are ok now (they are not!) or will be ok (they could easily get so much worse!).
But they don’t HAVE to get worse.
We’re more likely to prevent further backslide if we have the energy to fight back.
This is a marathon designed to make us want to collapse.
