right, like, the natural question to this hypothetical replacement candidate is "what would you, as president, do differently than the biden administration has done", and i doubt you find anyone willing to discuss that
people want to believe that you can just swap out biden no harm no foul, but there is nothing about this system as constituted that allows that. but rather than grapple with this, the response is basically to scream “nuh uh”
I am livid at the DNC for letting this happen. They’ve been downplaying and apparently bold face lying about Biden’s health. I don’t care what anyone says I’ve been around enough loved ones with cognitive issues that last night breaks my heart.

What no one has mentioned is Ohio GOP tried to block Biden from even being on the ballot & it took the governor intervention to make sure he would be on (despite following all the rules)

honestly my read of the debate was "disappointment." But the absolute mass hysterics today about this has me more terrified than anything biden did or didn't do. And FWIW, that was the read of most people i know.
also the media will not *reward* dems for getting rid of Biden! The driving force is wanting republicans to win, they'll find something new to criticize!

Actually, there is an obscure legal precedent within a clause of a decision dating back to the early 1800s that evidently was supposed to be repealed but got forgotten about and, theoretically, could be invoked here. It’s known as “ye olde switcheroo”

Yup. "POTUS wins reelection" happens a lot more than "POTUS steps aside after primary and party selects replacement candidate that goes on to win general election" does.
It's also not some giant surprise that Biden is 4 years older than last election.

there always is an option; you have to bc even a president can get sick and needs replacement; so there is a way; but i doubt open convention two months prior to elections is the right way; to have that covid crazy weasle of a Newsom take over? I mean, for real?
And do these people think Biden-Harris will (or even CAN) turn over their $200 million war chest to the new untested candidate??? That coordinated campaigns can turn on a dime? I didn't donate to this unnamed candidate. I donated to and voted FOR Biden-Harris.
There would still be a cost, but the smoothest way to do it would be for Biden to resign, making Harris the president, and endorse Harris for the nomination. The delegates are all Biden delegates so that’d hold sway. If there’s a butthurt caucus they can be pacified with the veep pick.
The question is if getting through the chaos of getting an alternative to Biden is better than sticking with him. I don’t know how Biden can recover from this. All the RNC needs to do is run ads from this debate from now on.
Plus the Republican noise machine can now make any Democrat a monster to their base and “divisive” to elite opinion in a matter of days. It used to take them months, then weeks.
