There is going to be a very real fundraising boost for Trump because of this, too. All of MAGA will want to show their support and help “defend” or “avenge” their leader.
Teddy Roosevelt was shot while giving a speech 3 weeks before the 1912 election, was so fucking tough that he *stayed to finish the speech* and then lost to Woodrow Wilson 435 electoral votes to 88
I certainly *hope* it won't have an effect, but sadly, it's not in reality hard to imagine the disengaged voter who will now think "Democrats are the party of political violence."
It’s more along the lines of Republicans and Independents who were going to stay home, might not now, because what they saw was “courage and defiance.”
tbh I don't think at this point conscience factors into it, the division of the American right atm leaves very little room for people with a more grey opinion of the party. It just makes him really look to be the hero they're already being told he is.
I think it'll help him with the people who already like him. I don't think it'll hurt Joe with all the people who don't. I think Joe's reaction to this is already going poorly.
i feel like it would help if, just once, joe democrat side would come out and plainly condemn violence perpetrated by rightwing terrorists, and highlight how inciting speech has kinda sorta caused a spike in that fash shit these last several years. but i'm not in public relations idk
"This is what happens when you spend 8 years saying that "2nd amendment people might have to do something about it", eventually one does.
Turns out not all of them like Trump"
Agreed. That's an insane take. His voters were always going to vote for him and moderates have no great love for him that they'll suddenly vote for him for getting his ear grazed.
If anything, I think it's a splash of cold water to people in despair. If we don't win now, there's fewer good options... but nothing's over, and nobody stands alone.
Too many people are looking at the election as a final showdown, and the news is selling that narrative, and that's never the case.
idk I think there is a decent chance this pushes the whole convention into a collective howl for vengeance that might not be their ideal presentation for swing voters
Given that he's a lying liar who lies and a convicted felon *and* that nobody dropped in that shoulder-to-shoulder crowd behind him by the follow thru on what looks like a side graze wound I'm really struggling to not think this was "Staged."
Yeah I think it's too early to even know exactly what happened cause the entire thing is super bizarre but if it was an assassination event I don't think it's going to HELP Joe Biden at the very least
Why wouldn't it? Trump now has to be afraid to do more rallies. Maybe they put him in a Popemobile type box for them now. Can't help but think that makes him look bad
