I am not wading into the main discussion, because I am tired, but I love how every time there's a "all books should be free, authors are ethereal creatures who don't need money to live" assertion, it concludes with "but of course, we should pay indie authors."

I will never forget the interview, shortly after Ozy Media Inc. was formed, where Carlos Watson said he named it after the poem, because "the lesson you take from [Ozymandias] is that you have to dream big." So that's why liberal arts education is important.

Moody and mournful, about aspects of self that are sacrificed and then missed. Packs a lot in a relatively small space. Not directly linked (I think) to Vanessa's "How to Travel Safely in Faerieland" but has that mundane/magical somber feeling and a big dose of far future. Great quick read!

Strange Horizons has been doing top notch work in fiction, criticism, and essays on the SFF fields for more than twenty years, and has been consistently passed over for the Hugo. I hope that this year, voters finally give them their due.
This is the last week of Hugo Award voting and we would like you to consider Strange Horizons for Best Semiprozine. For over 20 years, Strange Horizons has been publishing weekly issues filled with new stories, poems and non-fiction. Here are some more reasons you should vote for us below!

The name for a consistent and well-integrated mistake is “style”
It’s early, so here’s a trade secret: “Getting better” at art isn’t about not making mistakes, it’s about learning to incorporate them into your final art so they don't look like mistakes.

I was at a Church-operated booth at a local festival when the news came in. A middle-aged white woman was talking to me when the news came in. "They missed?" She asked me. "Yeah." I tried to sound as unbiased and informational as I could. "Ah well." Then she smiled and apologized.
Sitting right by two middle aged white guys in a diner. One guy said, “Somebody tried to kill Trump.” The other guy said, “He’s such a dick.” They both grunted affirmation, then started talking about Shōgun. Later, they explained the timeline of Better Call Saul to each other.

Oh *three* lions. I thought it was *sealions*. Makes more sense for a landbased sport if it's lions. Still not an ideal situation to find yourself in. Worse, if anything.

There's a new anthology coming up - crowdfunding soon. Included within will be a new story in the City of Last Chances setting which I honestly think is one of my best short pieces.
NEW! This Friday, Gareth and I will reveal the cover to the first anthology from our new publishing imprint. We'll also launch our new website. Until then, you can find more info here: ko-fi.com/post/Publi...

Yes, requests for non-fascists to "lower the temperature" is just a nicer way of putting the Heritage Foundation's statement that the revolution will remain bloodless if liberals allow it. It's a demand for acquiescence to the conditions of violence they created.
Seen a lot of comments like “hey Americans who support democracy, oppose political violence, and value truth, we have to take the temperature down,” and while well-intentioned, I don’t think it’ll work, because they’re not the ones raising the temperature.

Other than the fact that the shooter was a registered Republican and not a representative of the left, this incident really says a lot about the left.

“political violence” is when violence is done to a politician. everything they cause is a different thing and you shouldn’t worry about it

I’ve gone off about a similar thing wrt Arthurian literature on here a couple of times.
Not about the church but about conflicting attitudes toward adultery in medieval literature in general: women’s adultery was a big problem for medieval people because it cast doubts on the paternity of children, but they also understood why women often weren’t satisfied in arranged marriages.

I once saw something on a Wikipedia page, thought “That’s an interesting interpretation!” followed the link to the citation and it was a book I’d written.
I just saw a quote and was thinking, "Wow, that's a great quote" only to realize it was a quote from one of my novels. 😬
