Ok, we’re cooking again. Yes. Project 2025 represents mainstream Republican orthodoxy & majority of regular Republican voters will support that unquestioningly, regardless of my anecdotal observations on the erosion of “normie” middle-class educated conservatives, who were already bleeding from GOP.

Oh I see! In my brain I aligned the reply I replied to as affirmative and aligning with your original thought. Sorry about that misinterpretation.

We…do? I’m confused about what’s happening right now. I agree with all the skeets I read and was bringing in an observation on the malleability of the MAGA wall that I now realize may be misplaced in this specific conversation.
Avatar
I thought Amanda was agreeing with you and the thing we all agree on is that voluntarily casting our opposition as an insurmountable monolith of awful is self-defeating.
Avatar
Also like, a lot of them DO care! That’s the whole point! Online chud MAGAs are pretty rare! Project 2025 is insane even to regular conservative-voting people, and plausible because of the court term.

That was a really good translation to read, Mara!

If the French defeat the Nazis and America doesn’t, we will have to retire some of our most cherished jokes.
largest french turnout in 40 years, to keep the nazis down. fascism sucks up power left unattended

“They want to eliminate national parks” is a very simple way to get just about anyone on the Stop Project 2025 train. Are there much more glaring and life-threatening goals of P25? Yes but even your most bigoted cousin does not want to see the parks system sold for parts.
This!! Start with “they want to end no fault divorce, sell national parks, and ban porn” end with tax structure.

tom nichols—of all people???—just made a good point: you have to talk about P2025 in simple real people terms. not policy wonk terms.

I feel like we’ve lost the thread on how we use Sorkin-brain as an insult. This is weird and ridiculous, but if you want to criticize any theories as Sorkin-brain, it’s the “system actually working” ones, like Biden stepping down with a big speech about country over self and handing ticket to Harris
Avatar
I am not a political media strategist but nonetheless I feel pretty solid about this
I feel like the trick with Project 2025 is exactly the same as the WGA strike. little snippet screencaps going viral all over normie social media that make some shocking thing you had no idea about instantly digestible to anyone regardless of their information level or background

And also, as my recent conversation reminded me, not making the mistake of assuming everyone you think is a “lock” for Trump thinks this stuff is fine! Nothing has ever shot me full of tailwind like hearing a hard right person sound like me when talking about the Court.
Avatar
The far right cope machine is already trying to manufacture a narrative about the massive loss the French fascists faced today. They are scared they can sense what’s coming to America and it’s not fascism. Popular fronts win and scare fascists. Keep them on the back foot they are weak and scared.
Avatar
You can campaign for the Biden/Harris administration entirely on guarantees. - will not harm the ACA, Medicare, or Social Security - will appoint justices that correct the partisan imbalance of the Supreme Court. - will not renew Trump Tax Cuts. You don’t even need to win Congress for these!
Avatar
Also a great reminder that as well as “run against Trump” worked in 2020, “run against the far right” can potentially work even better in 2024. The reason is SCOTUS. They proved the danger doesn’t stop at Trump.
there are many reasons we need to win in the fall, but one of them is that i simply am not going to abide by letting both the brits and the french lecture us

- List out even like, three bad SC decisions (Dobbs, Chevron, Immunity). - Talk about Biden in terms of “administration” and a whole government. - Use that to immediately contrast to Project 2025, which is also administrative.
“He took away abortion and he wants to be a dictator” should be plastered on every surface and blaring out of every speaker.

The thing about the Biden discourse right now is, yeah, it’s drama, but it’s also TOTALLY a red herring. In a two-party system, it’s the perfect return-to-earth moment that we’re voting between parties with coalitions and agendas. France got this. UK got this. Time for us to get this.
Avatar
It almost feels fateful that the Supreme Court conferred absolute authority onto the president in the very same year that our candidate is reminding us that the president can and should be a figurehead, mouthpiece, and final say-maker at the head of a competent team.
Avatar
Another great dichotomy: Trump did his classic “I don’t know her” rebuff on Project 2025. It’s practically a running joke that Trump pretends he doesn’t know the people in his admin. THERE’S your contrast message. An executive so disconnected from his admin he regularly pretends they don’t exist.

When the France election results are good
Avatar
Well France apparently just collabed between everyone else to kick a far right party out of the chance to take power, it can be done if enough people want it to be, folks

Sometimes I’ll say “the internet is a red herring for business” to friends sometimes and they won’t know what I mean, and it’s this. The internet has totally eroded the traditional forms of mass-messaging, without actually replacing them.
Avatar
We need a Kendrick diss track about Project 2025.

Oh wow, you found an actual arcade! Rad!

The other big takeaway: conservative immigration/entitlement rhetoric is radicalizing and sticky, and no one on the left, be they Dem, centrist, progressive, liberal, or leftist, has a compelling counter-narrative to sell on immigration. We’re pure defense here and it’s our biggest liability.
Avatar
Woah wait where can I play this?!
Avatar
You’re good, man. No sarcasm, we’re in full agreement. Sometimes I throw an exclamation point in as a simple emphasis on a point - in this case, it hews to a pretty simple and often true stereotype, that national park issues click with a clear subset of the conservative base.

We did at least agree on the fact that almost every abortion that occurs after a certain amount of time is a wanted pregnancy experiencing a complication.
