The brilliant @kristaruffini.bsky.social is on here now. Follow her for labor, public, health, and policy goodness.

This work would not have been possible under the data policy CMS proposed (and thankfully postponed). Under that policy, we'd need to use the VRDC, which was too expensive even with our generous NIA grant. I'm hopeful CMS will keep listening to researchers' concerns here.

It was great talking with @jrothst.bsky.social about the NAS committee looking at intergenerational poverty. One takeaway: to be able to evaluate effective programs & policies across generations and decades, well-designed data collection is key. Listen: www.irp.wisc.edu/resource/jes...

CUNY is one of the most important institutions in New York. Instead of stupid articles about elite schools, I wish the NYTimes had cared about these colleges instead. I’ve seen first hand how they help young ppl move up in life (myself as a grad student at the GC included)!
The Graduate Center, where I sit, is in better physical shape than most of CUNY, although a far cry from Princeton. (I don't care) But even elite campuses like Hunter, which are fabulous engines of social mobility, are shockingly under-maintained

The answer to every story about elite college admissions is to make sure every American has access to a low price high quality public education within a reasonable drive of their hometown. The wild thing is we mostly achieved this. Then destroyed it.

Also, you know: there is at least one other conclusion, besides "and therefore we need the SAT," to be drawn from noticing that a test you acknowledge to favor the wealthy and privileged is a strong predictor of success at your university. (Go Bears.)
