According to Project 2025, which is the heart of Trump's campaign and platform, if you teach or talk about the existence of LGBTQ people then you are a sex offender and should be imprisoned.
Psst: Project 2025 is terrifying for a lot of reasons but also because on page 5 it calls for teachers and librarians who grant access to books that are maligned as pornography (which just means anything LGBTQ) to be registered as sex offenders. Pass it on.

Just a reminder: Trump inherited the lowest homicide rate of any president in 50 years. He was the first president in 30 years to leave office with a higher homicide rate than when he entered. And the rate has dropped every year since he left. www.foxnews.com/video/635815...

I think we may read that exchange differently. But I too am staying in my lane. Be well.

For sure. I just disagree with the idea that anything you've said amounts to an attempt to silence.

I'm not sure where you're seeing this "meant to silence" evidence. I've interacted with Kaitlin a couple of times and I've never felt that she was trying to silence me — even if we have disagreed and even as she has criticized me and other white women! Someone who responds is not trying to silence.

More than 10 million calls, texts and chat messages have been answered by counselors working for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline’s three-digit hotline, 988, in the two years since it debuted, federal officials said.

In online spaces, "please have a seat" or "please take several seats" usually means shut up and / or leave. Like a lot of idioms that feel new to me because I've mostly seen it online, it may be of older vintage from a community I don't belong to. Maybe people are taking offense based on that use?

This seems like a grim natural experiment to show that access to mental health services isn't going to neutralize access to guns when it comes to controlling violence

That's a good way to put it. Seeking simplicity because I find politics and policy fascinating but I know others don't.

Do you have advice on how to briefly and clearly communicate to people the ways that politics do impact their lives? I find myself facing this when talking with my teen and his friends. The main issue I can connect with them on is abortion, but I wonder if there are other issues & ideas that work.

Lost in the ongoing Trumpapalooza is the excellent news that a malaria vaccination developed at Oxford Univ. over the last 30 years and costing only £3 per shot is being unrolled in malaria-prone countries. If it fulfills its promise, this will make an enormous difference to so many lives.

If you want to know why J.D. Vance's national bestseller rang false with many who know Appalachian history and culture, I highly recommend the lively "Appalachian Reckoning: A Region Responds to 'Hillbilly Elegy'" from WVU Press, edited by Anthony Harkins & Meredith McCarroll.

Absolutely.
I'm not normally vengeful, but I want to point to Vance's nomination and ascension as the product of every purported liberal who touted his book as "revolutionary" over the objections of all the folks who knew better. That shit is partially on them, and they need to own that.
