Name a song you hate:
1. Leonard Cohen, "Hallelujah"
2. Don McLean, "American Pie"
3. Starship, "We Built This City"
Now, some will argue that 1 & 2 are Actually Good and certainly not as bad as 3.
I'm here to tell you that you are wrong and all three songs are treacly pieces of garbage.
Name a song you hate:
Don't Stop Believin'
It's just about the only thing I don't like about living in SF. Why can't it just leave us all alone and go away?
I have heard piano solo versions of it played in church many times, frequently during prelude and sometimes during the Eucharist. Every time was uncomfortable
Do I like "Hallelujah?"
Yes.
Do I enjoy watching Cohen fans visibly die inside upon hearing covers of "Baby Got Back" to the tune of "Hallelujah?"
Also yes.
i like the john cale version but i get it. yesterday i was in the car and the normally reliable classical station said "here's a piano trio playing leonard cohen's 'hallelujah'" and i couldn't turn it off fast enough
it's about sex and the loss of love and the blooming of mutual contempt and the inevitability of aging and death. the song may be many things, but "treacly" is a weird way to characterize it. it is a cold and bitter song
