Congrats to everyone on Twitter, still pretending they're not actually frequenting a Nazi bar as the jukebox plays the Horst Wessel Song at a deafening volume.
I don't understand why people are still there. Its not remotely good anymore and thats before considering its a space for Nazis and just *the worst* people.
I still say people there are suffering from a kind of phantom limb syndrome where they still think they've got the reach they had under the old system.
But every time I peek over there, it amazes me at how shitty it's become. Not just more awful people, but the site itself is buggy.
How many say “I’d leave but the sports…?”
I mean the number of athletes, professional sports organizations, and sportswriters still there is a huge problem.
Yeah, I get that ... and yet I'm a fairly big fan of several sports and managed to survive.
There's a cable channel now with sports highlights and everything! Might even be more than one, I don't know.
I had to rip the bandaid off - was hanging around for the sports content, too. But once I buried the app in a sub menu on a different screen, the habit of checking it vanished almost immediately
I started checking in again during the UK election b/c journalists there still seem pretty active in a way I haven’t found here. It did not inspire me to want to be there regularly. But I wonder if different niches experience it differently.
Yeah, there are isolated communities within Twitter. The horror writers and readers' community have done a better job isolating the bad place from the bad actors. I still browse that area from time to time, staying within who I follow and not looking at the full shit stream running.
That's the thing - there' no other place I can go to indulge my need to nerd out about certain aspects of politics. It's not the same here. That said, I find myself needing to check in even occasionally less and less. It's so gross now.
I went there a few dats ago to reset the password on my inactive account and the first thing I saw was a racist and misogynist comment. Followed by 4 ads.
I deleted the app long ago, so when I stop by (rarely) I do it in my browser. Maybe the app is better, but the browser version is so buggy that no more than the first five or so images will load for me and the rest of my timeline is just text.
While I rarely post there now, for some groups it’s tough to leave. I’m a volunteer weather spotter so I report conditions to NWS for example, Twitter is the main method. Fire reporting is the same, & NM has a LOT of fires. Neither group interacts w/Nazis much though, thankfully. 😅
"When he changed the name of the medium to The Fiery Cross, he didn't really mean it was now THAT The Fiery Cross, even though, y'know, all those people who would've 100% had daily delivery The Fiery Cross are just blithely burning crosses all over it every second of every hour of every day."
Lots of artists over there haven’t fully made the move because it’s going to be harder to recover your following somewhere else
It’s an awful place but it deserves to drain out and perish
Funny because that movie specifically features a very obvious homage to Nazis in order to really sell to anyone still confused SCAR IS A FUCKING FASCIST.
And yet so many journalists whose work I cherish continue to post there on a daily basis, and on a daily basis I keep wondering if their "nothing to see here, nothing to say about Musk, not aware of all those Nazis, I'm just here for the link juice and like candy" mentality will ever change.
I appreciate that journalism is such a hard living these days it’s a tough decision for many but really wish there was that mass exodus to make the Nazis and Musk feel it
Oh it is. That's why the weather, traffic, disaster folks are still there. For all that Elon has broken it, it serves a function by sheer force of size.
