People keep raising martyrdom. There’s no world where he isn’t - it’s not like his cult is going to believe “natural causes” when we get there, so would’ve been better to at least cross that bridge at the moment of greatest instability.
It does rather seem like this would’ve been an instance where one guy would’ve done a lot of good. The Rs are uniquely in Trump’s grasp, and we’ve seen the limited reach of “formerly generic R tries to emulate Trump.” Would’ve been a massive positive.
This is really helpful framing for me. Being on the left, I have a long list of reasons I don’t want her - but yeah, all the stuff I hate is the Dem establishment’s whole bag.
I personally think the Democrats making a real effort to do *something* will serve them better in the long run. Trump is going to win either way, better for the party to be able to counter that they slept-walked into it because Optics.
You’ll see the VP is on the ballot. And you can otherwise find an ocean of political science scholarship on the negligible impact of a VP. But you don’t seem interested in views besides your own, so have a nice day!
The voters pick the president, the president picks the VP. Setting aside voters’ level of interest in the VP, surely throwing the president off the ticket is going to wash out any appeal to procedural norms.
I’m not sure “the senile guy we think is mentally unfit wanted her, so we have to keep her” is a ringing endorsement. It’s politics, they’d just shank her if they wanted Newsom/Whitmer.
I don’t think they’d allow an open contest, I think they’d knife Kamala if they wanted someone else. I wonder if her terrible 2020 run isn’t doing more to keep him viable than anything else - in which case, well played Biden Team.
But this is a false choice - the choice is between her and Biden and anyone else the Dem establishment may want. And presumably they’d want someone who was able to stretch her well-resourced campaign to the start of voting?
Sure but I guess I don’t see those as especially tough moments? It reads to me as an utter failure at campaigning. And that’s before you get to all of her campaign infrastructure stuff.
“Every tough moment” is kinda obfuscatory - she didn’t even make it to the voting portion. She’ll start as front runner, but I don’t see any reason to believe she can actually contend.
A parallel track here is what’s already been done to email. On the mailing list anew with every online purchase. “Sign in from a new device” for every account every time you restart your computer.
I am once again asking you to consider that an entire information ecosystem established as the primary form of communication over a hundred years and allegedly regulated by the federal government was destroyed by scammers virtually overnight and we just don’t, like, ever talk about it
I see myself in that a bit, but on the other hand I think “Biden the Great Climate President” while he continues to do a lot of awful shit in that space is damaging (ie, throw climate some money and you can do whatever else). I work in an IRA field - it’s great. But new gas may undo it.
