you know what looks really bad in retrospect? SDNY's decision not to move forward with a prosecution of trump on FECA charges

there are a lot of reasons that american presidential elections take so long but a big one imo is just money. it takes time to raise a billion dollars. others include our ridiculous and arcane system, how big our country is compared to european democracies, etc.

co-sign but i will add: i don't know the best path but i do know the worst path, and that's replacing him with anyone other than kamala, via any process whatsoever.

I have no idea the best path re Biden but I do know a solid week straight of “Biden Old” and “Rich Dems Worried” above-the-fold stories are *obscene* in the face of SCOTUS using the Constitution to wipe their asses purely in the service of reinstating a felon rapist as president. Crazy-making shit.

Extremely frustrating to hear legal experts analyzing the SCOTUS ruling on immunity like just another case - it's an inherently normalizing act. People need to stop playing constitutional Calvinball and treat them like political actors.

there's a certain irony that liberals who have spent four years yelling at leftists who criticize Biden at all for any reason have now, in one week, done more damage to Biden's candidacy than all those leftists combined

I think the freakout has been absurd and overblown and far more damaging than the debate itself, which would have been survivable if everyone had been willing to circle the wagons and push back on it I am, from a purely pragmatic standpoint, extremely concerned that the damage cannot be overcome

I agree that Harris has significant weaknesses as a politician but this is an incredibly ugly way to put it. Also: A centrist candidate choosing another centrist as his running mate — still not the left's fault! Leftists hate Harris, that's actually one of her weaknesses.

I listened to NPR for like five minutes today. They had on Sarah Isgur to talk about what a tough spot Roberts was in because Biden was prosecuting his opponent for a crime for which he wasn’t impeached.

There is also every reason to think that this court will expand Trump v. U.S in his second term to extend immunity to those doing his bidding. I.e., “Our holding in Trump v. U.S. demands that government officials be able to enact the will of the executive without fear of criminal proceedings.”

Really good thread analyzing results of posting the same client science analysis on Twitter, Threads, and BSky. TLDR: BSky has the highest engagement and Twitter comments were almost pure climate denial.

There was an even bigger difference in the comments received. All on Threads and all but one here were positive, constructive, or neutral (one person was just being a jerk, not a troll). Only 18% on X were positive or neutral. The rest were negative, many highly so.

I don't want to sound too patronizing! If you want to create the public support for a future Dem trifecta to term-limit the court or expand it, go ahead. The dream Dem scenario for 2025 is another 51-49 Senate - GOP picks up WV, Allred beats Cruz, no other flips.

scotus is ripping up abortion rights, pre-ordaining a future donald trump a lawless god king, rolling back the new deal and gains of the civil rights movement. nobody has to give a shit what dave weigel thinks is the "right" way to do anything

If you want to turn SCOTUS into a weak House of Lords, that's its own thing. If you want a liberal SCOTUS you elect Dem presidents until Thomas and Alito die.
