Wheelchair users are not exclusively paralyzed. There isn’t reliable data for it, but many, many of us are ambulatory (can walk sometimes, either for short periods or on good days). When you accuse someone of faking because you saw a leg move, you’re not taking into account a variety of conditions.
okay it's time for a prompt post: respond to this post with a correction to a common misconception about something you know a lot about. if you feel like it, boost your response. (please use a kindly tone about it, otherwise i, your prompt curator, will get anxious.)

Oh, and because it will never sit right in my heart the way I occasionally see folks go to bat for their "cool guy" parasocial crush Jack Black: If you're neurodivergent, you should know Jack Black has been a decades-long, issue-denying, critic-blasting, funding supporter of Autism Speaks. Yeah.
Jack Black just cancelled his international tour because a bandmate made the crass joke "Don't miss next time" as he blew out his birthday candle on stage. This provoked shock and outrage. If White liberals spent 10% the energy they do avoiding looking bad to stop bad folks, we wouldn't be here.

Thinking more about the music I’m listening to lately. What I like & don’t like in various songs & it’s kind of sad, songs I don’t really like, I just like the time/place when it was in rotation. So it’s not something I’d pick but I still get that little charge when I hear it & then disappointment.

The tl;dr This is union-busting, written as a statute. A company union is not a union, it is a way for management to dilute/interfere with the power of the union. Company unions have been unlawful since 1935, because everyone recognizes it is an attempt to union bust. This is trying to undo that.
Not a populist: GOP VP candidate J.D. Vance introduced the Team Act (with Marco Rubio) to empower companies to establish and dissolve β€œemployee involvement organizations” (a.k.a., company unions), a long-standing goal of GOP business leaders: www.rubio.senate.gov/wp-content/u...

Every once in a while I am reminded that we are only one of several groups with a claim to the title "human", and it makes me a little sad I'll never meet them. As many as *8* now-extinct species of human may have been alive at the same time as us, roughly 300,000 years ago.
The most ancient human genome yet has been sequencedβ€”and it’s a Denisovan’s 🏺πŸ§ͺ www.science.org/content/arti... 200,000-year-old DNA from Siberian cave shows our elusive, extinct cousins mated repeatedly with Neanderthals

Project 2025 wants to put Hyun Sook and I, and anyone else who writes books they falsely scream "pornography" at, in prison. They want the teachers and librarians who shelve our books to be registered sex offenders. I know what books they consider "porn," because my book banners are on their board.
Psst: Project 2025 is terrifying for a lot of reasons but also because on page 5 it calls for teachers and librarians who grant access to books that are maligned as pornography (which just means anything LGBTQ) to be registered as sex offenders. Pass it on.

Racism shaped the water we drink, the air we breathe, the streets we use, the cars we drive (or don’t), our houses and schools and post offices and parks, even what products can have carcinogens with minor penalties. It was all crafted with racism!
Avatar
Racism often seems like an interpersonal issue because that’s the first point of contact for those of us who experience it, but the systemic build of racism is where the impacts begin to form chasms because every step is designed to break or deny us.
Something I just saw come up in a TikTok: Folks really do fixate on racist systems being driven by "hate" without ever reckoning or even learning about the many ways those systems economically profited the oppressors. Segregation and Jim Crow and White Riots were all VERY profitable to oppressors.

People underestimate the impact of humidity. A NYC account on insta that was posting NYers videos of the heat and commenters were like β€œit’s only in the 80s” but the humidity was also in the 80s and the entire city felt like a fucking sauna. The impact of the air is not determined by temp alone.

also and I feel like I buried the lede here: it calls for the people who CREATE queer media to be imprisoned. That'd be people like me. Or any other queer creator you love. Any queen who's been on drag race. Chappel Roan. Janelle Monae. Anyone who's made a piece of queer media. Imprisoned.

my maybe cancelable take is that the last week would have been a good time for cis white allies to listen, learn, and offer material support instead of opinions so that cis Black people, nonblack trans people, and Black trans people could have an informed discussion without taking extra damage.

They sort of assume that Disabled people will be included by default, when the reality is that, by default, Disabled people are likely to be excluded.
Avatar
So when folks talk about the need to build communities and strengthen communities, they often don't have very good models or ideas or awareness of how to do this with Disabled people.
Avatar
I think it's interesting how many people's baseline definitions of community and how communities work don't include Disabled people. And how this is partly because Disabled people, for a lot of the time those definitions were being created, were literally removed from our communities.

I only read about half of The Privatization of Everything before I had to stop from sheer rage and frustration but there’s a whole section about how the attempted privatization of the NWS has already led to people dying from tornados as subscription services get weather alert priority.
It's because they want to privatize weather. They tried doing it under his last administration but many people didn't really notice beyond the weird hurricane drawing he did. It's also why they cut (or at least tried to it's been a minute since I read that stuff) a bunch of NASA Earth's funding too

This stuff makes me absolutely apocalypse-level mad - attempts to turn β€œbeing aware of weather that can kill you” into a paid subscription service is pure evil.
