Pretty much. What it mostly boils down to is that most Americans really don’t have the faintest idea what living under modern authoritarian regimes actually looks like, and how it’s often at the same time way more boring and way more scary than they’d imagined.

I love living in a country where every July I wait on the edge of my seat to see if my fundamental rights are going to be taken away only days before this whole nation shits red, white, and blue and blows up fireworks about how we're so great.

i might have to stop following contemporary american politics for a while and focus on reading about other things, like the histories of wars, revolutions, and societal decline. at least that shit happened in the past am i right.

people really like their pop culture favs and it's completely fine/normal even if star wars is cringe. i mean, it could be worse: the posts could've been about harry potter, but Madam TERFuffle did one good thing and that was to make that shit non-grata.
