years of constructing jokes as "stating a fact in a sarcastic tone and then looking at the camera" have prepared michael ian black for a crossover into conservative superstardom
ngl, sort of terrified at the notion of “what if Captain Monterey Jack went Dennis Miller”
it would be disgusting and it would actually work incredibly well to that demo
It's both not as bad but also worse: Michael Ian Black went on expecting to debate him about a different topic and the Dilbert Guy played him like a fiddle: michaelianblack.substack.com/p/relitigati...
Take away Capt Monterey Jack, and he was always the weakest link in the chain at The State. Besides, Showalter would have been even better in that role.
Now if Marino were out there claiming Louie was being suppressed because of misandry or some bullshit, well, that would hurt.
His move was always doing something really weird and breaking the third wall with some sketchy-ass smile, which seems to be his actual smile. He just always felt very one dimensional to me, minus Capt Monterey Jack, who is legend.
To be totally fair, I don’t think anyone watched the State for the acting. But Marino, Lennon, Kerri and (very underrated) Allison were the best actors, at least that’s how I remember thinking in 1994. I own the complete series on DVD but can’t watch because they changed the music and it feels wrong
MIB’s bathroom attendant sketch without Voodoo Lady is like Reese’s without chocolate: Just sticking your hand into a big thing of peanut butter. It might still be okay, but it’s not what you want or are expecting.
I understand music licensing is complex and Craig Wedren did a commendable job creating soundalikes. But I also need someone to give me an MKV that muxes the official video with the original broadcast audio
I hate to “well, actually” this, but I think it was a misguided attempt to talk rationally to an irrational person. MIB has not gone MAGA, he’s still very much liberal.
These men, that are all so bitter and *insulted* by other humans...
They believe the camera and microphone somehow validates their grievances.
No, dude, you're just a boring man getting older and not coming to terms with it.
Yeah but the writing was David Wain (who also directed), and Michael Showalter so like his contribution was doing his dry comedy shtick on camera - which I do think he’s good at - but no need to give him too much credit.
pop-culture declaring a guy who shot himself as the voice of the gen x generation might have been a heads-up (pun intended) regarding the eventual gen x heel turn
