"30% of Democrats — as well as 46% of Republicans — now say they'd end birthright citizenship, something guaranteed under the 14th Amendment of the Constitution."
We've been running screamer headlines amounting to "The immigrants are invading and causing all the crimes" for decades.
60 Minutes just did a "they're walking around a fence and nobody is stopping them!!!" hysteria piece a few weeks back.
How long did you expect people to resist the drumbeat?
It makes sense, it is totally unfair for people to get to become a citizen of this country simply because they were born in it, whereas I *EARNED* my citizenship by being born to US Citizens (and in the country)
the thing about this one that throws a lot of people is frequently ______-americans will have THE MOST DOGSHIT opinions about immigration because "they did it the right way"
like a boomer complaining about how fine corporal punishment is because of how normal they are
The kids are alright.
My daughter got in a fight with a teacher about how the media lies and that January 6 was just a regular protest.
It was her journalism teacher. The other kids in the class had my daughter's back.
I feel really good about this generation, used to call Generation Kind sometimes, but it’s a bad name and I worry that pandemic roughed them up pretty bad
Read the fine print folks. 6K people surveyed in a country of 300M citizens. Axios and any Latino associated with publishing this clickbait should be ashamed.
No, just noting that more often than not these days that 'representative sample' means those who answer their cell phone when called by a number they don't know :-)
There's enough of the US workforce who are citizens of other countries that an *actual* major push to deport undocumented workers would be massively disruptive.
What the boss class wants is the possibility of quick deportations so they can extract more value from the workers with the government (ICE) serving as capitalism's goon squad.
That won’t ever happen because the donor class relies on easily exploitable labor to drive obscene profits.
A lot of talk, a lot of bluster, but in the end no changes because it would inconvenience the rich.
“Half of Americans” - yeah no I don’t think so
If I’m reading their methodology right, it’s about 6K people responding to an “online poll” over the course of a total of nine non-consecutive days. No indication of where this poll was posted, but if it was Axios then the sampling is all Axios readers
There was recently a thing in The National Post saying half of Canadians were pro banning gender care for teens/kids, but the source was their own poll, which was yeah, around the same thing. 6k ppl responding to a poll on a right wing news outlet.
