BlueSky can come up with all kinds of tools, and it should. But we can’t “technologize” our way out of white supremacy. If BlueSky wants to thrive, white liberals and progressives are going to have to interrogate and annihilate their relationship to white supremacy.
yet evidently these people experience bsky as a place where they are “swarmed by aggressive trolls” - and that sucks. we need user tools to shut that down - thanks @safety.bsky.app @pfrazee.com for prioritizing this

"but the polls" "but nobody has ever won with" blah blah blah, there's time, and nobody in modern history has ever had to run against such a deranged view of what America will become. It's winnable. Pack up the pity party; off to work we go.

Psst: Project 2025 is terrifying for a lot of reasons but also because on page 5 it calls for teachers and librarians who grant access to books that are maligned as pornography (which just means anything LGBTQ) to be registered as sex offenders. Pass it on.

Universal school choice goes back to them actively wanting to destroy public education (remember Betsy DeVos) and that's... Jesus H. Christ if you don't understand how scary that is and how many marginalized children will be affected by that I don't know what to tell you.
It also outlines the need to cut off federal funding for any school that teaches "critical race theory," in the same breath. So, teach history the jingoistic way we demand or don't get funding. And erase queer people or we will pursue legal action.

One more thing. This is why so many Black users have stayed on X despite, long before the discourse noticed his awfulness, having nicknamed Musk “Apartheid Clyde.” People go where their people are, they migrate for community. (I know “community” has been a hard to grasp concept on here.)

So saying that Tressie or Jamelle leaving doesn’t “make or break this place” communicates to me that the person’s definition of success doesn’t consider Black users as a whole. Which, good luck with that given what we know about how things become widely popular 4/?

Platform migration only works as a collective process. Entire groups and demos must move to make a place successful. Someone, usually thought-leaders and trend-setters, can sign off that a place is legit. Imagine all the users who have left or never joined b/c of the reputation being formed here 3/?

Bouie may no longer be the “young” I mean here, but consider, when ordinary Black users see people they look up to and respect like Tressie, Jamelle, and Lydia flea because of harassment and racism, are they inspired to think this is a worthy or cool place for them? 2/?

Saw someone’s take is “Bouie not being here won’t make or break” this site. I am happy to say some things about how platform migration works. It’s true, one user never makes or breaks anything, but for U.S. users the presence of young Black folks has driven the popularity of new tech for decades 1/?

Just a timely reminder that Teflon Mask promises a lot of things and fails to deliver on most of them. He does blow up a lot of shit and turn community spaces into nazi bars tho; he is good at that. So I guess I'm just saying, "Know what you're actually fighting."

‘Don’t worry about electing a fascist because he won’t be able to do fascism’ is a terrible argument even if it were correct on the merits.
WSJ this morning. lol at the last bit. "Leaders on both sides need to stop describing the stakes of the election in apocalyptic terms. Democracy won't end if one or the other candidate is elected. Fascism is not aborning if Mr. Trump wins, unless you have little faith in American institutions."

Dismissing a slam-dunk case against Trump on a newly invented technicality that goes against decades of precedent sure looks corrupt. But lawyers can adjudicate it. What’s clearly corrupt is acting as if the special counsel is Constitutional for months, then manufacturing delay by saying it’s not.

This is something to watch out for: media becoming even less motivated to accurately describe Trump’s antidemocratic actions, or accurately describe Project 2025, because of fears of being accused of stochastic terrorism by MAGA. From @daveweigel.bsky.social www.semafor.com/article/07/1...
Senate Dems should take one of their assorted gun control bills off the shelf, rename it something like "Trump Assassination Prevention Act," and force Rs to do a talking filibuster to block it

The left has really internalized doom & it can be self fulfilling but it’s not true.Everything is in play.Exogenous factors happen. This is not necessarily comforting but it’s not predetermined either. This is politics during a critical juncture.Question is:where is the political opportunity?
There is no situation where leftists won’t respond with dread, and it’s miserable. History is made by seizing opportunities and it’s impossible to do so if you assume everything that happens is going to be terrible
