Okay, so after the elections in England and France, we can expect US media to start writing about the "leftward swing" of the Western world... how soon?

BREAKING NEWS: Voters turned out in numbers not seen in decades to stop the far-right National Rally from taking power in the French National Assembly. Polls predicted a first-place finish for National Rally, which instead came in third in initial results as polling stations closed.

Yeah, I guess France is going to drop out of the news now.
JUST IN: Polls closed in France. Exit polls show surprise: —Left coalition (New Popular Front) projected first. (!) —Far-right (RN) has lost its bid to take power. Anti-RN front appears to have worked very well. —No bloc close to majority. Follow this 🧵 for results and more:

It's probably worth recalling that we talk about the political "left" and "right" because of where people sat in the Assemblée nationale during the Revolution.

I'm not proud of the fact that I immediately recalled that "I Spit on Your Grave" also has no score. Not to mention "No Country for Old Men", if we want to be more elevated.
‘In a Violent Nature’ Does Something Horror Movies Never Do and Is Better For Itcollider.com The refreshing new slasher is clicing its way into theaters.

I also watched this movie, which is a useful reminder of why they'll never stop making slasher movies- the return on investment is pretty high when you can film your buddy walking around in a mask for zero dollars. More style than usual for this genre; but, no substance.

It's interesting too that the high price of fame has become such a potent theme in recent horrors: the X trilogy, for sure, but also Late Night with the Devil and the Exorcism both riff on that theme (see also: Rosemary's Baby).
I liked Maxxxine fine, and probably a little more than Girl Joker (Pearl). Pastiche is a weird genre- I guess this one succeeds because it really looks like an 80s movie (De Palma would have loved the twist ending) and never parodies itself.

Rebecca Solnit nails it: "Sometimes I wonder if all this coverage is because the media knows how to cover a normal problem like a sub-par candidate; they don’t know how to cover something as abnormal and unprecedented as the end of the republic. So for the most part they don’t."
Why is the pundit class so desperate to push Biden out of the race? | Rebecca Solnitwww.theguardian.com Yes, Biden had a bad debate – but so did Trump. The media is once again repeating the mistakes of 2016

You remember that thing in college where they have older students who welcome the incoming freshmen and show them around? We should have something like that in cities for trans kids who’ve just escaped their shitty hometown. (Maybe we do.)

Oh. Okay. "I, for one, remain convinced that this technology is real and will have a massive impact on how we work—and live—over the coming years. But that is not the same thing as saying that the companies at the forefront of the AI boom, or their investors, will be successful financially."

The only thing in my memory that I can compare it to was the mainstream media's unified insistence that we were absolutely going to invade Iraq. Having said that, the problem for liberals is we're repulsed by the Times, but, if they asked any one of us tomorrow to write for them, we all would.
The New York Times ratfucking operation in favor of Trump is so incredibly blatant that it’s beyond parody. If you saw ratfucking like this coming from a newspaper in a movie, you’d probably think it was a bit over the top.

I went through 11 articles in the Times about why Biden should leave the race now before I got to this one some-people-say/other-people-say article about Presidential immunity.
News Analysis: In its immunity decision, the Supreme Court’s conservative majority largely embraced Donald Trump’s dark view of tit-for-tat partisan prosecutions while liberals cited the prospect of power unchecked by legal accountability.
