I hope some future political psychologist writes a dissertation on how Trump addresses his supporters. I want to stress, this is a fundraising email...his people are not saying this to "own the libs." This is intended to garner a positive response from rank and file Republicans.
I do think there's an element of kayfabe here...where Trump and his supporters are both chuckling a bit about the dire seriousness of his tone yet also totally getting into it and getting revved up to smash some of their enemies over the head with folding chairs.
I have to imagine that the Hillsdale undergraduate interns (fresh off their week at a Claremont Institute junket) who wrote this copy at least chuckled a tiny bit when they sent this out.
It's so much like the NWO plotline from the late 1990s that sometimes I feel like people just miss the NWO and Trump is their surrogate NWO except has nukes
The persecution, self-centering and professions of love were a component in Jim Jones' speeches as he relied more and more on amphetamines and phenobarbital to keep it all together.
Surely there could be a chapter on the typography alone. Something about the vibe of somebody who only learned to do basic formatting in Microsoft Word deeply resonates with this crowd for some reason
It's really the design aesthetic I feel so curious about. It's very MS Outlook Express chain email style - which either means it was created using design tools no more complicated than Outlook Express... or it's an intentional decision based on a knowingness it would resonate with such people.
LOLz aside that seems like a perfect email to his cult followers. It’s not about policies. He’s a cult leader not a politician. His cult loves him because they see themselves in him. He’s their people (racist vulgarian chuds)
I feel like this is very savvy messaging. Considering a lot of his “fans” have been abandoned by their former friends and family who are sick and tired of every interaction being exhausting, they must soak up the parasocial “love” from their favorite president
It's "savvy" in the same way that scam emails have deliberate typos and bad grammar. It filters out critical thinkers and selects for the particular kind of person gullible enough to be susceptible to the pitch.
A lot of his pay pigs are probably a mix of relatively affluent (jetski dealerships etc) and have likely been alienated from social experiences, for both 'bowling alone' reasons and because their children/family may have reduced or cut contact due to becoming Fox News spigots.
Scarier still: I'm pretty certain that he does not believe that he is God-sent. Rather the only important existing entity [period] is himself and his aggrandizement is the only worthy thing, no matter what anyone says.
[Any indication to the contrary is an occasion for unending rage.]
Gonna be honest - not sure I'd believe claims like "I'll never stop loving you" from a guy on his third marriage, and who's cheated on all three of his wives.
