One of the key things that unlocks the character of Greg Abbott is that he fought to ban the sort of injury lawsuits that he himself benefitted from, specifically targeting the kinds of lifetime disability annuities that he himself has.

texas has some fine qualities, but, man, y’all sure do produce some mean bastard politicians
Avatar
Look, just cause Greg Abbott sucks doesn't mean you should also tar, uh, Dan Patrick, Ken Paxton, Chip Roy, Ronny Jackson, Dan Crenshaw, John Cornyn, and, uh, Rafael Edward Cruz ... ...jfc Texas
Avatar
A really fun number of those guys aren't from Texas

putting razor wire on the wrong borders

Should never have let that Canoodian in.
Avatar
Paxton, Patrick, and Roy also not from Texas
Avatar
Don't send him back! And, while we're at it, can you please come and collect Tucker Carlson?

Ken Paxton has been under federal indictment for what seems like 20 years, and yet...he persists.

this is Tom DeLay erasure

I was limiting myself to sitting politicians, otherwise we'd be here all day.

but enough about Greg Abbott, folks,

texas also produces some incredibly witty, indomitable lefty women i am waiting for the next molly ivins, because good god do we need her

"let me tell you why no one wants to talk to you behind closed doors. Because y'all lie. That's the bottom line." She may be a Texas woman now, but she's also So St. Louis ❤️

Two good things can be simultaneously true!

Lord we could sure use another Ann Richards these days.
Avatar
A ton of our shittiest politicians weren’t even born in Texas. Unfortunately, we can’t say that about Abbott.

Tex Mex and margaritas are about it

Lyle Lovett & Nanci Griffith & that bridge with all the bats in Austin & then, yeah, you're done.
Avatar
real, both good and bad versions of this

The historical relevance of Seven Days In May and the gubernatorial campaign of Edwin Walker is one of the many reasons we always stayed far away from Texas.
Avatar
“Fuck you, got mine” is embroidered on the throw pillows of the Republican Party
Avatar
Jesus, that's evil. Like I knew he was bad, but that truly next level depraved.
Avatar
It's wild! you would not think the villain of the story "the accident that put Greg Abbot in a wheelchair" would be Greg Abbot, but he got there
Avatar
Avatar
Avatar
Only for people who deserve it!! And that man deserves to have his wheelchair pushed into traffic while Paxton rots in Guantanamo
Avatar
A compulsive ladder kicker
Avatar
Avatar
He’s such an entire jerk.
Avatar
climbing ladders specifically so that he can kick them out from under him
Avatar
Him and Paxton are two of the most corrupt fuckers currently in office and it’s beyond maddening that no one can make hay out of it

The Texas Democratic Party is an organization based entirely on lazy sinecure and helpless fundraising. Any reasonable attempt to knock him out gets hamstrung by party leaders who are too happy to pull down a do-nothing paycheck.
Avatar
You are not kidding. I look at a state like Wisconsin and see what their state chair, Ben Wikler has done, and then I look at Texas and I just get sad.
Avatar
I spent four years trying to do some amount of good with the Texas Dems and it mostly just felt like I was putting my face against a belt sander
Avatar
It just is awful. I still donate to the state and county parties here, but to be honest, it’s less than what I give to the Michigan and Wisconsin parties. I feel like it’s just putting money down the rat hole.
Avatar
I feel so happy for Wisconsin tho!! They’re finally within spitting distance of being a democracy again! Feel worse for Florida and North Carolina peeps; those states are so fucked for the foreseeable future. Feel pretty lucky to live in PA at the present moment!!
Avatar
Don't forget that the GOP has gerrymandered the the state so much in their favour it's almost impossible for Dems to win. And also don't forget that they've targeted Harris County specifically and given themselves the power to nullify the election their if they so chose.
Avatar
Ugh. The number of state parties like this is so depressing. Would be an excellent place to start throwing around populist-left energy
Avatar
Because he made the affirmative choice post law school to not have health insurance.
Avatar
Of a type with Mitch McConnell and his benefitting from public polio research as a child yet blocking advancements in medical funding, ACA, etc. Truly horrible people.

That tree had one job.
Avatar
Additionally! He made sure the new law only affects people going forward Anyone already injured (himself) gets to keep collecting checks
Avatar
Like how Thomas has fought to ban the sort of affirmative action that he himself benefitted from?
Listen, someday someone is going to come up with a better distillation of Republican political theory than “I Got Mine, Fuck You,” but I’m not holding my breath.
