2024 and every useful website is pivoting to this

bonzibuddy walked so these spywares and trojans could run

Some say he still walks among us, sending location data to the dick pill companies.

well... that's a very logical conclusion to his story arc

I mentioned it the other day, but it is hilarious that we're putting all this effort into moving to AI which can't even do math, the one thing computers are able to do fantastically.

Yep. bsky.app/profile/symb...
Bitter observation, because sorting was one of the earliest (symbolic) applications of the computer ~80 yrs ago, followed by decades of intense research. Now, "innovation" is making a computer sort incorrectly every time using a dozen orders of magnitude more time & energy, and dead-end fakery.

So much for people telling me "AI solves my everyday problems already"

Chances are - they were paid shills, but...

LLMs and DNNs: Useless for math, sorting, or any symbolic operation, including problem solving or search: Things that were fruitfully optimised for the previous 70 years: bsky.app/profile/symb...
Symbolic AI & (often biomimicking) search/optimising algorithms are exciting because it can produce UNEXPECTED, non-obvious results that are hard for humans to find. Generative shit only comes up with the bleeding obvious—but far less efficiently &worse than a human could; it can only interpolate.

AI can't do math... wait, what?

been in the news all week, and I don't like linking to the wsj, but this was the first link that came up was this www.wsj.com/tech/ai/ai-i...

can't read. need a subscription. theres this article from IEEE about AI struggling with "quantitative reasoning" (word problems), and i think this is some funny irony: humans creating AI in its image and "likeness": spectrum.ieee.org/large-langua...
AI Language Models Are Struggling to “Get” Mathspectrum.ieee.org Should this be telling us something?

I'm really baffled by the continued insistence of tech ceos that what everyone really wants is to have a fucking conversation with a computer
Avatar
The heartfelt belief that we all want to have menial jobs so the computers can make art and write books is also kinda baffling.
Avatar
tech executives make very clear that *they* do not like other humans so naturally they assume that any decent customer will *also* hate other humans
Avatar
I don't get it. It's not like talking to computers is unpopular either, people seem to like it enough to get dedicated listening devices in their houses. Hell anytime I'm on the phone with my mum she tells alexa to hang up, and if I let it hang up for her, it takes like 10 seconds.
Avatar
They are equally baffled by the idea that people would speak to them socially by choice. The computer is honestly warmer than their social lives.

Maybe they played with Eliza at a formative age.

Either they imprinted on Star Trek when young or they’re used to dictating everything, instead of keeping their work and texts to themselves like normal people

everybody wants to re-invent Clippy, it seems

This but with ai prompt boxes

Tired of the timeline where malware in a highly satirical video game is less annoying than these AI implementations.

I am not joking about it anymore when I say " dumbest timeline continues unabated " specifically because I've been saying it for so long now and keep being proven right
You know, those of us in tech support at the time are a little triggered by this purple bastard....

Gonna tell my kids this was Grape Ape

Can't tell mine that, she's seen Laffalympics

“I download!” is so ominous, given that thing’s reputation.
Avatar
And all that will be sold to us as a subscription service that costs $20 a month.
Avatar
I downloaded this thing when I was a kid because I just wanted to play with the silly purple monkey. Years later, found out it was spyware.
Avatar
this is practically the same thing as facebook, except with the entire internet
Avatar
I wasn't even a kid, just reallyyyyyy high at 3 am when I downloaded it...
Avatar
When I did it, I think it was a parrot or something. Whatever the first one was, before they moved to the monkey. ..... God I'm old. Wanna know how old? I still remember using Windows 3.1

History is a flat circle, or something. Everywhere is trying to get rid of adblock too. Guess what that leads to? Pop-ups. It's 2003 all over again.
Avatar
We’ll soon have a new law that requires pages to display a massive banner prompting the user to accept the use of “AI” in the website.
Avatar
And then someone will develop an "AI blocker", that automatically just blocks AI-related things. And then corporations will begin implementing anti-AI-blockers, because it cuts into their precious profits, and this will all begin anew. Time is a flat circle. 😩

Change “I tell facts” to “I tell lies” and it’s accurate
