This is also called "catastrophizing" and is a cognitive distortion associated with anxiety and depression. Which should surprise no one, honestly. Of COURSE our modern situation is depressing/anxiety-inducing beyond the reasonable expectations of anyone else.

Americans across the political spectrum are all deeply mired in “apocalypse realism”, in which it is easier to imagine the end of the world than to imagine the world not ending. This widespread imaginary just happens to motivate the people who want the world to end while depressing everyone else.

Imagine being surprised that if you want to hire the President, Publisher, and CEO of DC comics to personally draw you a bespoke original piece of art, it would be prohibitively expensive.

People were hashtaggin’ Jim Lee to the point I thought the dude passed, but it turns out he’s just charging 20k for commissions, which if you’ve been in the game since the early 80’s and was the head of two different publishers in that run, you’re fine charging that.

It's interesting consider the inverse interpretation of this, where bisexual DOES just mean "I'm only attracted to cis men AND cis women, not trans folk of either persuasion or agender folk" Which... not being attracted to an identity isn't necessarily phobia of that identity, right?

"Kill your darlings" only applies if you're holding onto something that actually hurts your story. But jerks sometimes use "kill your darlings" as a weapon to try to break you. Don't wantonly kill what you love the most about your story. That's why you're writing it. Make it work.

I’ve tried everything i could to keep me out of this position again, but everything I’ve tried has failed, and our landlord has given us to the end of the month to get back rent taken care of or we’re out. Liz’ new job is enough to pay bills month-to-month, but not to get the back rent in time.

I don't know if I qualify as queer... But I love that queerness has come a long way from where it was when I first learned of it. And while not everyone is as free as they should be, more people are free now, and that itself is worthy of celebration.

some states are unsafe for trans people to travel through, some states are unsafe for pregnant people to travel through, some states are unsafe for gay people to travel through, we’re developing this horrific patchwork of laws as fundamental rights are upended nationally
