For my writing students, especially, I've been pointing out how using ChatGPT to produce their writing for them leads to big problems fast, and that fixing those problems takes way more time than just having written in a traditional way in the first place.

No see, this is what gets to me. Like, I believe the victims but WOOF does everything about these ‘journalists’ scream “we are using these women and their story without an ounce of shame”. How is everyone not pissed at how blatant the money/attention grab was???

As of yesterday, they charged $7 to listen to the podcast without ads on their proprietary app that you had to download to listen, and they got linkbacks from a bunch of huge sites, which advertisers like to see.

We've fought for a year on the writing team to push back and explain why this takes longer and produces worse work, and we keep getting called luddites. Someone telling me to do my job a certain way who does not understand how I do my job or what good work in my job looks like drives me UP THE WALL

I know it's businessmen doing businessmen stuff but the fact that no one has gotten them to understand this shit doesn't work and makes more problems than it solves is staggering. Even the Eric Adams robot cop thing was more useful and less wasteful.

It’s like people just can’t sit with discomfort for even a little bit, they really immediately react like “oh no this thing I liked now sucks, time to *immediately* replace it w/something else! & bully everyone else to do that too!” Like, slow down! Art isn’t content and its not interchangeable!

honestly hate that every time there's an industry bad actor, lists of "works by marginalized authors to support instead" start circulating like it's a moral obligation to be done out of guilt, & it's crickets every other day of the year. my art is not to be taken in as a reactionary measure

I think my most unpopular opinion (in a way I truly don't understand why other people aren't with me on this) is that I never want an electronic device to do something I didn't specifically instruct it to do. It can suggest things, but never should it do anything w/o asking me first.

Working in tech means I'm grumpy about AI in two ways: - As a consumer, I'm faced with annoying products stuffing AI where it doesn't belong (and claiming it's a good thing) - As a professional, I'm faced with all the stories of friends and colleagues being forced to work on pointless AI things
