What looks like a reject from the Cherry Life-Saver production line is actually a red-hot fuel pellet of plutonium dioxide (238PuO2) intended for use in a 'radioisotope thermoelectric generator' or RTG, like those used on space probes sent too far from the Sun to utilize solar panels.

Bits of history about the Eiffel Tower: 1. It was built to commemorate the 100 yr anniversary of the French Revolution at 1889 'Exposition Universelle' (world's fair). 2. It was supposed to be TEMPORARY, to stand until 1909 when it would be disassembled. This fate was averted

Doing some light hurricane prep for Beryl, and so I set out some candles in case we lose power, but they're all fancy scented candles, so if the lights go out, it's going to smell like someone is making lavender sugar cookies on the beach. So I got that going for me.

I *just now* realized that "Newt Scamander" is basically a zoologist named "Newt Salamander", and wow is she bad at coming up with names. Looking forward to her Scottish firefighter character named 'Les McBurney' or 'Will I. Savem'.

Skeleton city planning. Calcium supplement subsidies for the un-crypted. Bone repair clinics and their administration for the public good. Which necromancers can't be trusted with fresh corpses.

From now on, if I'm ever seated on a plane next to someone who smells terrible, I'll just think: "they're probably a marine biologist with tight travel turnaround times" and thank them for their service.

Hell, every budget Trump submitted had massive cuts to our science infrastructure, from cancer to infectious disease to ecology. Fortunately, Congress felt differently. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles...

Tolkien named "Bag End" (Bilbo and Frodo's home) for the literal French to English translation of "cul-de-sac" as a way of poking fun at the English habit of using French phrases to sound sophisticated. Frodo lived in a cul-de-sac: 'end of bag'.

I can't think of the right way to say this except: I'm proud of you two for jumping in with both feet, fighting the system, and having the courage to be yourselves in a hostile society. I wish it wasn't such an uphill battle.
