The Constitutional Crisis is already here. You are living inside it. No way back, for better or worse. Either fight to win the future or concede to fascist tyranny taking over our country, the world's largest economy and mightiest military.
"The Bernie Bros and K-Hive appear to be forming an alliance," I say at the 4th of July cookout. An anvil falls out of the sky directly onto my person, killing me instantly. God appears through the clouds. "I did that," he says. Family and friends applaud politely.
The greatest democracy the world has ever seen ended in the name of a reality TV game show host because one political party went insane from a black guy being elected President.
It’s not that SCOTUS wouldn’t grant the same immunity to Democratic Presidents, they just know Democrats would never be so corrupt, authoritarian or ruthless to actually use it. This is immunity solely for Republicans, who have proven they don’t support democracy unless they win.
A president elected by a minority of voters now has absolute authority to commit crimes without fear of being held accountable because the judicial branch is owned by corporate interests to further their own corruption. The fascists have already won their war against democracy.
On the optimistic side, if Trump somehow loses to this version of Joe Biden I’m pretty sure it would drive him clinically insane. That’s worth my vote.
A decently funny and extremely foreseeable outcome here is that Biden does not step down, and in three months the Times endorses the guy they just said must leave the race for the good of the nation, for the good of the nation.
The wise thinkers of the Times opinion department are handling this like WFAN callers after the Mets bullpen blows two out of three www.nytimes.com/2024/06/28/o...
The judicial branch has managed to conspire with itself so that three of the most significant trials against Donald Trump will never see the light of day if he wins in November. This country is fucked.
Georgia’s court of appeals agrees to hear the Trump defendants’ interlocutory appeal of the judge’s decision not to kick Fani Willis off the Fulton County RICO case (because of her romantic entanglement with another prosecutor), effectively indefinitely postponing another Trump trial.
Between Cannon acting as Trump’s personal defense attorney and the Supreme Court deciding that Republican presidents may freely commit crimes (as a treat) it’s evident that Trump was right about these trials being completely rigged, just not in the way he meant.
Remember that DOJ sought expedited review of this issue from the Court last year (skipping the circuit courts). They refused and punted it to the DC Circuit, which took months; then dilly dallied all this time after the DC Circuit’s decision, before finally issuing a grant. It’s pretty transparent.
Nikki Haley having her campaign ended by giving the worst answer imaginable is especially funny because Trump say things that are 10x as batshit crazy on a daily basis. It’s like we all time traveled back to 2008 for one week.
just a casual reminder that a majority of the court was appointed by Republican presidents who reached the White House after losing the popular vote -- three of them by Trump -- and one of the justices is married to one of Trump's co-conspirators in trying to overturn the 2020 election.
Breaking News: The Supreme Court declined to decide for now whether Donald Trump is immune from prosecution on charges of plotting to overturn the 2020 election.
