The Hawley/Vance pseudo-populist messaging on labor and "antitrust reform" are a 100% hollow performance by stuffed suit authoritarian bigots, but the press is incapable of making that clear to the public because sources, some readers, and ownership might get mad

These people really don’t get what happens if Trump takes power again.
NYT's immigration beat reporter examined Trump's plan for mass deporation thru the lens that policies and rules and courts matter The people she interviewed are in that same bubble They don't Trump and Miller aren't going to follow laws. They intend to wreak havoc and expect no one to stop them

I’m sorry we have an imperfect candidate but maybe if the party nominally opposed to Trump actually opposed Trump instead of turning on itself like a pack of hyenas we could surmount a polling deficit of a couple of points

It’s clear that as soon as we found out the shooter was Republican, the NYTimes lost interest and reverted to the “Biden old” narrative.
Incredibly, despite the RNC and the assassination attempt (which they don’t even mention!), the New York Times is still flogging the dying narrative horse that is Biden Old

The 14th Amendment rhetoric in relation to abortion is a way of obfuscating that they are going for a national and absolute ban on abortion and contraception. We have to make this explicit, because the reporters sure aren't.

Texas has been under GOP control for 25 years. Every single statewide office held by Republicans. Texas ranks last in quality of life, worst in health insurance. Power goes out often; people die of heat or cold. The infant death rate is rising; women die giving birth. These are features, not bugs.
Anger grows as some senior facilities left without power for days: ‘It’s horrible what the state of Texas is doing’ | CNNwww.cnn.com As Tina Kitzmiller sat inside her sweltering apartment, windows and doors open in the hope of catching even the slightest breeze, she was frustrated and worried for her dog and her neighbors.

And I mean, I get it, I absolutely do this too when it comes to “channeling raw rage and terror about the election into being a shitlord online” - but it’s an explanation for the Bad Vibes pretty much everywhere online.
Thanks to the US election, a LOT of people are staring down the barrel of months of raw existential terror and rage which they feel powerless to stop in any meaningful way. battling on social media is a VERY appealing, easy mechanism for taking that energy out on opponents you can actually reach.

No one should be able to spend $45 million a month to get their preferred candidate elected. Absolutely broken system.
News that should shock no one: After assassination attempt, Elon Musk claims he'll donate $45 million a month to super PAC that backs Trump; Bill Ackman officially endorses; other Silicon Valley players and venture capitalists decree the "taboo" of supporting MAGA movement is gone.

I would say partially because he’s black but honestly, mostly because he listened. He would respond to anyone. There’s this belief of “I yell at my allies rather than my enemies because they listen” but lots of people just want to yell and scream, and he was a great target because he would listen.
Okay one more thing. Jamelle Bouie was not the only new york times employee, not even the only regular poster with an opinion column on this website, and I think people should do some real self-reflection on why he was singled out for the sins of that fucking newspaper.

I have decided the only way I will survive the next five months of existential dread and terror is by being aggressively optimistic and forcing myself to believe the people still have collective power over our government, a thing I’m not sure is true but refuse to accept.

This election, everyone must confront it. We know who Trump is. We know how damaging he is and was to the fabric of society. He wants to target your neighbors. He's shattered basic institutions and checks on his power. Is that what we want America to be? Because this time it will not be repairable
