Is it bad that this is clearly him trying to recruit fascists based on What The Teens Are Into? Yes. Is this an incredibly funny pick from that era? Absolutely.
Also ginning engagement dollars. The more ridiculous the post, the more replies. It does make me laugh that he’s telling on himself as someone who finds no joy in his life.
in college i mentioned to a friend that video killed the radio star was the first video on MTV (later described by jon stewart as a piece of trivia that *everyone knows*)
his response: "presidents of the united states… classic!"
I saw people in the comments of that original post saying “this was back when MTV still played MUSIC and it wasn’t all tv shows!!!”
Even though jokes about MTV becoming just TV started as early as like 1995.
There's a theory that "the good old days" are perpetually 30 years ago. 2010s libertarians loved the Reagan '80s, 1980s Rs idolized the Ike '50s, 1950s anticommunists loved pre-New Deal '20s, 1920s Wall Street types longed for Gilded Age, etc.
So we're due for late '90s/early '00s being glamorized.
