What could go wrong.
just watched a presser with Milwaukee cops explaining that Wisconsin is an open carry state so they can't do anything about it if somebody's walking around the soft perimeter with an AR

I recommend you read this thread from Ken White, epecially part 4 about fighting back and working to protect and defend people weaker than you.
Institutions work until they don’t. It’s banal but true. Courts as institutions worked when Trump tried to steal the election, but FedSoc has been chipping away at them for decades, and I think it is very rational to doubt they will work any more to restrain an executive.

The timing of this ruling, on day 1 of the RNC, was really exquisite. Easy to imagine Aileen Cannon being appointed Attorney General in a future GOP admin.
Judge Cannon ruled that she was not bound by a Supreme Court case that expressly said the attorney general was authorized to appoint a special prosecutor.

Please don’t “both sides” the “violent political rhetoric” conversation when one side regularly glorifies and intimidates with guns and the other side speaks out to end gun violence. These are not the same.

We don't have to treat Trump the way we handle typical Presidential candidates. In fact, we have a moral imperative not to.

I agree that Trump will ratchet up the violent rhetoric and that it’s hard to know which way it would swing. There’s real danger of someone acting on it and that’s the key concern. But just politically I don’t see a gain. Doesn’t draw new voters outside cult, might well drive away swing voters.
Trump is going to respond to this by becoming even more unhinged. He will call for violence, openly, gleefully. What we don't know: how the majority of Americans will react to the frontrunner for president demanding the murder of his opponents. I fear it's not going to be how we'd prefer, though.

Just a reminder: it’s good to oppose assassinations. But you are under absolutely no obligation to treat Trumpists and Trump-apologists as people who are honest, or acting in good faith, when they purport to condemn political violence or violent rhetoric. They’re not sincere.

Biden and Trump both ramble but Biden realizes it and winds down with “well, anyway” while Trump just keeps the firehose running

This press conference is just going to confirm everyone’s priors. Biden’s made a few bad flubs but he’s showing a good command of the facts. I’d like to see Trump have to field foreign policy questions like this.

look - I'm receptive to both "no, it's gotta be him" arguments and "he's gotta step aside" arguments. not to be wishy-washy but both arguments have merit. "then we do a tourney" is OTOH flatly hilarious. yeah that'll go great. there will much much unity in the wake of the electoral deathmatch
