And my Facebook feed is still full of my Gen X and Boomer relatives saying if people can't drive in the summer they certainly can not drive in the winter.
We have only had snow on the ground for six hours all month. We are in Michigan.
From a brief look, you only pay a 10% penalty on early 401K withdrawals, in addition to paying tax on it as if it were income, so imagine you lose 40% worst case?
If you are getting a 401K match from the employer, just keep it at that and withdraw when required?
Yeah, what I'm saying is if you get a 100% match on 6%, put in 6%. Then pull it when required (employer half probably covers taxes and fees).
Its "free" money pre collapse, though I assume there are consequences to doing that too often.
Step 1 - Get a 30 year mortgage in the 2020s.
Step 2 - Wait for global financial systems to fail in the wake of climate chaos.
Step 3 - ???
Step 4 - Profit.
I understand that sentiment but it comes all too quickly and my generation were convinced we weren’t going to be here either (on account of nuclear war).
I'm not worried about nuclear war so much just climate change. Also the lack of Humanities lack of self awareness with rich bastards who have toyed with our lives for too long have stolen the earth from generations to come.
& break that down
Migrating to an area that is
1. Already populated
2. Has insufficient resources
3. Has also suffered climate change
4. Doesn’t want/can’t support more people
It won’t be pretty & we don’t all fit on the new map
Unless we drain the billionaires
Ecological devastation and resource wars are also probably not great for the index and mutual funds that make up one's 401k
unless its all in defense contractors, maybe
Like anything else, it will be the poor that suffer most of the effects of climate change. The rich will likely be fine, and they have 401ks. So 401ks will probably be fine (unless they can figure out a way to save theirs while destroying yours.)
Yikes.
Our generation (67 years old) had challenging economic times yet remained optimistic.
The upcoming generation are less optimistic, and for good reasons (Science).
I feel pangs of guilt from seeing this post and have remorse for my part in the wasteful stewardship of Earth.
I apologize
Are you an oil company or the government of any country? It's not because of your plastic bag usage or plastic straws or whatever else they've tried to convince you of, and it's not your fault.
I live in Montana. It didn't actually snow until December 23. We got an ice storm in October, but the ground is supposed to be fully covered by like mid-november. We're fucked.
