If you mean it looks like shit, I'd agree, but it also seems to clearly get the message across. I'm unsure what other message one should take from hastily constructed on-sight gallows.
The tops of their heads are about on par; I think Biden's bigger forehead/lower eyeline made him look a fraction shorter, as well as Obama probably being centered in photos.
There did seem to be a lot of relatively secular patriotism, so to speak, in the 30s/40s/50s. I think it was to large extent cultivated by deliberate government messaging though.
