by choosing anyone other than harris to replace biden should he decide to step aside, the party would be revealing they very cynically chose her as veep for optics without believing she could actually be president.

Most of Israel is clearly NOT happy to go along with Bibi, as shown in every single poll since 10/7, and in the mass anti-government protests over the past several weeks.

To be more specific: The non-left parties are insisting that the parties *within* Left are so divided it's silly to think they can govern — while most Left leaders for now are insisting they could try. Final numbers still unknown anyway. Lots of constitutional hand-wringing.

5. The result for now looks like a badly hung parliament that will struggle to even fill its parliamentary leadership positions, let alone settle on a prime minister and government. The resulting political paralysis could benefit the RN's grievance-based politics.

One final thought. Macron has emerged from this exercise as a political orphan. Philippe, Le Maire and Darmanin have declared their independence and Attal essentially did so tonight. He has no party to speak of and he kneecapped his closest loyalists. Unprecedented, even in previous cohabitations.

Macron can take some satisfaction in the fact that the far right was turned back, and also in the much better than expected results for his centrist coalition. But he needed the help of the same left he was demonizing a week ago, and has asked too much too often of people that truly despise him.

My last point on #France elections: DO NOT underestimate the impact of the failure of the extreme-right to win a majority. After successes in the Euro elections, the 1st round, & favorable socio-econ conditions, the extreme-right failed. This failure will echo throughout Europe & probably the US.
