if we still had MAD Magazine they would’ve gotten him with “Hillbilly Allergy by JD Pantsed” four years ago and none of this would be a problem

Let's be VERY clear here. Their t-shirts are explicit antisemitic rhetoric. Their t-shirts are dogwhistles and they say "whites against Jews". ALT for the image: A group of white men on the sidewalk flying a swastika flag, one doing zeig heil, with t-shirts that read "Whites Against Replacement".

Unhoused person slain at national gathering of political party tied to Supreme Court justices who just criminalized living unhoused.
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel confirms that a Columbus, Ohio, police officer detailed to the RNC shot and killed a homeless Black man (earlier reported to be in his early 20s) more than half a mile from the RNC arena. The man was known by the nickname Jehovah and took care of a pit bull named Isis.

The reason that the language of domestic abuse and the language of authoritarianism looks the same is because it's just the same thing on a different scale.

The deal with blue sky is this - it has extremely patchy moderation and an idiosyncratic user base. I block liberally here; I find it improves the experience immensely. A block is not an indictment. It simply means ‘this isn’t an account I need to interact with right now’

Per this NYT story, an alleged Syrian war criminal and torturer received his visa and entered the US during the Trump admin, so I don’t understand why the Syria guy on Trump’s National Security Council gets to offer an analytic comment and whistle off into the sunset. www.nytimes.com/2024/07/16/u...

See we wouldn't have this problem if we as a society just agreed that porn is a social good.
Psst: Project 2025 is terrifying for a lot of reasons but also because on page 5 it calls for teachers and librarians who grant access to books that are maligned as pornography (which just means anything LGBTQ) to be registered as sex offenders. Pass it on.

every corporate website having a useless little AI chatbot pop up in the lower right feels like the equivalent of when all the brands were rushing to issue their own NFTs for some reason.
The generative AI bubble is beginning to look a lot like crypto - specious hype, vague roadmaps accepted without criticism, an environmental disaster wrapped around the vague promises of innovation, and an unwillingness by many to call its bluff. wheresyoured.at/put-up-or-sh...

You quoted him saying “Have had enough of dodging gangs of violent drug addicts just to get in and out of the building” Is this true? Did you ask if the actual reason is to escape accountability for egregious environmental & worker's rights violations and stricter regulation? Fvcking stenographers.

Not only a mile from the arena, but across the freeway that bisects that part of town and forms an enormous physical barrier

Important.
The things delivery workers do that piss you off are almost all to with their conditions. If you're paid a pittance per drop or are salaried but severely punished for failure to meet an impossible schedule, you're likely to cut corners. Your problem is with delivery companies.

Wow. They literally say it’s about money, not human rights, and expect that to come off like “don’t take it personally”

The same with those that go "We were just following orders", when they say it wasn't personal. Damned straight it is personal when you are making it the choice to essentially extinguish another person's existence.

I only read about half of The Privatization of Everything before I had to stop from sheer rage and frustration but there’s a whole section about how the attempted privatization of the NWS has already led to people dying from tornados as subscription services get weather alert priority.
It's because they want to privatize weather. They tried doing it under his last administration but many people didn't really notice beyond the weird hurricane drawing he did. It's also why they cut (or at least tried to it's been a minute since I read that stuff) a bunch of NASA Earth's funding too
