I just finished The Housemaid and this book has been all over Booktok so I know I'm late to the party, but this is a worthy addition to the "good for her" canon.

“democrats have to win every election forever” is not a sustainable solution and it is quite literally the one we are facing unless we break the power of this court
The electoral problem has become, as the IRA gloated to Thatcher, that the GOP only needs to get lucky once and the Democrats need to be lucky forever. Either they’re going to do something about the court - now, not eventually - or we will simply play iterations of this game until the GOP wins.

Local politics aren’t glamorous but they’re how the GOP got here and it’s how we can start to take things back! Get involved with county and state redistricting efforts to break gerrymanding! Campaign for ballot initiatives to fix our archaic political system!

it’s a world for them, isn’t it? it was for us but not anymore. they’re trying so hard remake the world in the image of their unholy machines. what are we? just an unwelcome, very alive, organic overgrowth, clinging to the edges of their profit machines. humanity is increasingly superfluous
They don't need their customers to like it, they just need their stock price to go up. It's like the Long Blockchain Iced Tea company, the funding pressures want there to be A Thing They Call AI, not A Thing You Want. Or that is, y'know, good.

Max and I have said we'll never do a Buffy podcast because there are so many of them out there, but we just recorded a Buffy episode for Welcome to the End and now I really want to talk about all of it

Max: Maybe I'm speaking from a position of privilege, but I wouldn't sell any bones to the fairies...Why? How many randomly chosen bones would you sell? Me: 5 Max: 5?!? Me: I think I can spare 5. Max: The human body doesn't have a lot of extra bones!

I am once again asking you to consider that an entire information ecosystem established as the primary form of communication over a hundred years and allegedly regulated by the federal government was destroyed by scammers virtually overnight and we just don’t, like, ever talk about it
The first rule of avoiding scam calls is to never answer unknown numbers, and even some known ones. Curious? Bored? Worried it’s an emergency? Wait the extra minute it takes for the call to go to voice mail, then decide if it’s legitimate.
Sick of scams? Stop answering your phone.www.washingtonpost.com Phone scams are still hugely popular — and they depend entirely on people curious enough to answer.

Wow, this episode of Drop Dead Diva (Dead Model Walking) just has no shame about lifting the ENTIRE plot of Legally Blonde, huh.

Drop Dead Diva has a way better angel falls in love with a human plot than Charmed. It basically goes Charmed < Drop Dead Diva < Der Himmel über Berlin

all the culture you liked from decades past was made possible by cheap rent and artists' pay keeping up with what things cost
It's because we all have day jobs, advances are pennies, publishers don't market, one underperforming book tanks your career, and we're expected to be well-tuned brand machines on social media websites designed to suck our souls dry.

Dems seem to weirdly valorize avoiding the theatrical element of this, that minimizing the attention generated will somehow get them credit for being serious when the result is actually that no one notices wtf theyre doing or pays attention to it bsky.app/profile/pwna...
Also you need to lean into the theatrics of it. A story that says "according to sources, Trump won't get security briefings" is a page 6 story, not a page 1. But "CIA is asking Biden for a decision" / "Biden asked FBI for a report on Trump security concerns" / ...
