One of the truest things I've heard anyone say in a while is that "the right way" to protest is to have protested fifty years ago, and "the wrong way" to protest is to protest today.
i think the mistake a lot of people make is thinking that fighting climate chaos is a popular position. i don't think it actually is the US/Canada/UK etc. maybe it is in the abstract but the second anything becomes inconvenient (e.g. reducing usage of cars) people will fight it
